How many of you just said "screw it" and settled for a lot vehicle?
When I first started my bmw hunt, I went the bmw site and did the whole build your vehicle thing...picked out the color, interior trim, options, the whole 9. Then I started calling/emailing dealerships all over southern cali with my configuration. I originally wanted the following:
metallic black ext beige leatherette (didn't want to pay for leather) sport package steptronic comfort heated seats That's it. I quickly found out that no one had that configuration and so my car would have be special ordered. No biggie I thought to myself...I waited 2 years to buy my first bimmer...I can wait 7-8 more weeks. Boy was I wrong, the more I searched, the more I looked around, the more dealerships and cars I saw...I starting feeling the itch. Then the itch became an urge...then the urge became an obsession. I had to have a bimmer and I HAD TO HAVE ONE NOW! So, in the end, I "settled" for the following: jet black ext beige leather int sport package premium package steptronic pdc rear power sunshade fold down rear seats with ski bag I paid more than I initially thought I would (mostly for the PP) but I finally had my bimmer. I wasn't so hot on the PP, but after having sat in a car with leatherette and one with leather, I knew I wanted the leather. Also, the other gidgets and gadgets that come with the PP I have come to love. The rear power sunshade has been a godsend since I have a 1 year old baby. And the PDC comes in especially handy on those occasions when rear view is limited or you're coming close to something on the side. I haven't used the fold down rear seats, but more and more I'm thinking that will come in especially handy as well. All in all, I'm GLAD I did what I did, even though it may have seen hasty at first. Heated seats would have been nice, but living in southern cali, I probably would have only used them one week out of the year. Comfort Access...I admit I do wish I had it, but I think the benefits of the PP and rear sunshade outweight the CA. But most important of all...I'm driving my bimmer!

I'm glad you found your's on the lot and love it. Too bad it's going to be hard for me to find an E46 M3 in carbon black/black leather with alcantra inserts and Comp. package SMG for allocation let alone the lot.

I bought mine off the lot but it was the same exact specs/color that I was wanted so It wasn't a problem. I got a good deal on it as well so I got my car in 5 days and made it to a E90post meet that next weekend!

I will probably never buy a car off of the lot. Im too picky about things, and want my car to be exactly what I want... especially if I am spending all this money on a car...

I keep hearing about the European Delivery. Can someone explain that concept to me as it's foreign to me (literally!)?

You just missed out on part of the BMW Experience i.e. the waiting and the tracking

I also had a dealer I wanted to deal specifically with. They said no manuals were coming in for the next two months. If I wanted a manual (which was a requirement for me), I could spec one of the production slots they had. So I did exactly that... The only things I should have done was order iDrive at that time. Im kicking myself now for it... |

Yup the urge can overwelm the waiting period for even your very own design. Good for you and hope you take it out for a spin as often as you can

I would think that if you wanted a manual that you would be hard pressed to find one in a dealer's inventory. All those real estate agents buying 3's like automatics. For this reason I will probably never be able to buy a car off the lot.

I had to order mine, if nothing else just for the experience. It definately makes delivery "a moment". Nothing like seeing the car you configured rolling off of the truck wrapped and plastic baggied!

I found mine in the show room. Had everything I wanted exactly how I would have ordered it. My mom also got lucky the one she wanted was on the lot too. But we just ordered one for my Girl tho cause we couldnt find her an AW-with ZSP, Leatherette, Heated seats, Automatic, Black interior, and Heated seats.
Heres a few pics of my 330i and moms 330xi

Since I lease, I time the order to get the new one when the old lease expires so I always order. Also my dealer doesn't stock manuals except for a real stripped down version so he can have a low price BMW that no one wants.
Took only 5 weeks from order to delivery on this 330xi.
