I just got this too at 10k. First time since 1200 miles the oil has been touched.

I broke it in hard and drive it hard in the city. I expected some oil burning but it went from max to below min in one drive.

I checked for leaks and did not see any. I was parked on a slight decline, maybe 3-5*, but then moved it around, drove, started it up and checked multiple times on flat surfaces and it was too low.

I added 1 full quart and it is back to max.

Possible a level sensor issue? Or is everyone just burning oil in these things?

Just changed the oil at 14,500 miles and it had only gone halfway down the gauge since the 1,200 mile change which I was pretty happy with after having to put a litre of oil in my previous 135i and Z4 between services.

I went into my local dealer yesterday to pick up a couple of quarts of 5w30. I told the parts desk person I needed oil for my 1 Series M Coupe and she brought me the oil for the M3. Fortunately I was prepared for this.

Castrol Syntec is NOT the correct oil!

Castrol Edge with SPT (Syntec Power Technology) 5W40 -- formerly called Castrol Syntec -- is BMW Longlife-01 and is a perfectly good oil.
