How many 1M's will see a track

hi everyone and sorry for the novice approach to this question, but i was just wondering what the main reason was for you getting your 1M in the first place?
i know it might seem like a daft question, but how many owners actually race their 1M's on a track??
each to there own and all.
my aw 1M arrives at the dealership in the morning..
thanks for any comments

Oh I think the 1m will be out there once or twice a month for more relaxed track time. I'll reserve the remaining track time for the e30 especially now that it's getting an m20 transplant (RIP m42), it's just so much fun to rag on it and much less expensive to maintain!

DE's are one thing but a serious race car, I doubt the 1M will be used much, if ever.

Most race teams don't take a turbo powered car to the track, especially one that is in such limited production. Sure, it's fast and has huge fenders to stuff a lot of rubber under but every race series I know of is all over restricting turbo boost so there's no real advantage against the competition. As good as the 1M is it doesn't make business sense to strip one and convert it to a race car because you have to have a donor car (or several) to use for parts. When I talked with someone who races in Grand-Am about the subject they quickly turned to the M3 V8 as being the engine of choice for road racing. Top end horsepower is preferred vs. low/mid range torque, making the high revving V8 the better choice.
Club racers usually work with cars that are 10+ years old. Price is a huge factor as well as available parts. Since there will never be a lot of 1M fenders and bumpers waiting around in junk yards you can probably write off the car as a future club racer as well.
As a 1M owner I am glad production will be kept super low but at the same time I originally had thoughts of turning mine into a track only race car in 5-8 years. This idea just doesn't make sense now.
My .02.

I'll attend to some track day's, maybe invest into track tires, but as DP said, I'd be so sad to wrek it. I prefer to rent a racecar if i ever wanted to race.

Enjoy your delivery!

My 1M has seen the first four Nordschleife laps and will see a couple more. Maybe an odd track day on the Nordschleife, but mostly just-for-fun tourist traffic when I'm there anyway. If I want to go seriously racing, I have my race prepared and non-road legal 325 (e36). As much fun as the 1M is, there is no way I could beat the 325s laptimes with it. As far as serious racing goes, I agree with Dan: the two fastest ways to senslessly burn money in amateur racing? 1.) race an exotic car that nobody builds parts for and nobody has any experience with and 2.) race a turbo. They're so easy to tune (and just as easy to blow up). I don't see many 1M race projects here in Germany as the car doesn't fit into any serious racing series / classes. I do however know of one project where they are putting together a V8 powered 1M for endurance racing. If the car ever rolls, I'll post info to it.

might get it out for a spin on a local track but not the real intention of the car for us, have a dedicated astra opc stripped out and built for track days, the nurburgring is a different story....

Mine will see the track for sure.

Mostly wet tracks because that s what i like most. Try to balance the car on over and understeer with turbo will be a new challenge.

I think in a few years time you will see a lot of trackday cars with turbo s because there is not much else to buy.

Mine for sure! On the public days at Spa-Fancorchamps and some laps on the ''ring'', these 2 racetracks are both, only 80 miles away from my home!!;-)
