Bump, realoem does not show the part number yet. The diagram is there but no part number.

Any updates on this?

Still no part # on realoem :-( the shifter is there though, #4 on the diagram, you can see the power cord dangling:

There isn't a part number yet, we went to BMW (in Switzerland) and apparently his parts guy just followed the part ordering procedure to find the knob, just like on realoem.com and placed an order! When we get the part we'll post the number!

Please do guys. My local US parts guy went through all the countries (germany etc.) and couldn't pull the # he needed to order this. He even tried finding it in accessories and other ///M cars and couldn't get one with a number. Once theres a part number I can call him back and hopefully get this!

I just looked at the DIY and what concerns me is that on my car (US version) there is no cigarette lighter. Instead of an ash tray in the lowest compartment of my center console, I just have a panel. I'm wondering if the wires are going to be present in cars without this feature.

You should have a cigarette lighter under your armrest next to the e-brake. I would imagine these wires run through the console and should solve your problem. Otherwise I dont think there should be much issue sourcing a wire for this.

Here's the part number of the piece you got to order:

part# BMW F10 M5 (MT)

Quite expensive though.

Seriously, ask for the part# of the complete gear shift lever layout.

No part numbers on realOEM.com, though:

*facepalm*
When Artemis said "quite expensive though"
I didn't realize he was making a joke.

I hope we find out all the deets soon. This is a great mod.

Okay, my apologies if the cork of the champaign bottle flew already through your room. We're not there yet.

On a serious note: as I commented, neither part # nor price are indicated on realOEM.com.

I am convinced that BMW has definitely a part # for the complete gear shift section, because if it ever got to be replaced, you need the part #. A dealer certified/authorized to sell ///M cars should be able to tell us. So I trust that sooner or later it will surface. It's somewhere out there. Up Periscope !

Alternatively, we might reconsider walking down the ZHP knob road again:

And this M3 owner bought his illuminated shift knob it in Germany (tailor made for $100) (http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=727756) from these guys: http://redlinegoods.com/Mstitch.php

Install was apparently no walk in the park, but he seems to be pleased with the final result: "I wouldn't go through it again. Too much extra snipping and pulling to get it right. Hardest part was getting the actual ring/boot into its original place because this leather seems to be a higher quality and is a bit "thicker" than the OEM one. Fitment was snug, but man this thing feels great!").

I stopped by the local dealer and asked the parts guy for the part number. He couldn't find anything, called up a tech, and both seemed pretty lost, so I guess nothing for the moment... I suppose they are all busy replacing the oil pumps on all M5s and M6s that have been grounded due to a nationwide recall.
