JB4 query - servicing?
Quick question for you JB4 owners... I got my (non-dealership) service done today and deliberately left my JB4 enabled and told the head mechanic up-front when I dropped it in and offered to switch it to stock, as I wanted to ensure he had the full picture when assessing the car. He didn't take me up on that, so I left it as-is.
There's nothing in the routine service itself that has come up negative - it's just a normal report. However, that same service report has a notes section that's "no communication with engine management computer, I suspect due to after-market tuning" which I'm not thrilled about as it could be misinterpreted by others in the future. I have been happy with the approach of the mechanic shop over the past visits, and they are reputable BMW specialists and thankfully not associated with a stealership. The work is quality so I'd like to find a good outcome on this. So - if I switch the JB4 back to stock by-pass (map 0) would it be expected that this "engine management" communication is no longer an issue? If so, he has agreed to re-print the service report without this being noted and will do so without charge. Looks like this is the case according to Burger but thought I'd query those other than the actual manufacturer. TIA! Last edited by gtappers; 05-27-2013 at 02:26 AM.. |

Yes, changing map back to 0 will allow communication with the ECU again, easy.
