Ppk vs jb4 or Cobb??
Hey guys I'm new here so forgive me possibly a stupid question. But why would you spend 1-2k USD on a PPK that adds a super crazy 17 tq / 20 hp to a manual. While on the other hand spending $900 on JB4 or Cobb you would see much larger gains.
I'm one month deep into my new to me 135i just cleaning up the engine and getting some work done before I mod my car. Plugs / coils / waterpump / walnut blasting. Anything else I'm missing? |

As for the engine work I think you've got it all covered, depends on the mileage though. I'd do an oil change as well just to be safe.

PPK is for those that want a little more power and response while keeping the factory warranty.
Since you're a N54 equipped car, you should get Cobb as its a bit better suited to making power. And $900? I thought JB4 and Cobb handheld tuners were in the $500-$600 range? And I would clean or swap the air filter too. |

There are supposed to be some people who know some people that can code PPK for you at a cheaper price than the dealer.

Also interested in this too since I've done a complete tune-up on my 135. I was also looking at the cobb AP but heard the support was discontinued? I really like the handheld display as opposed to the jb4 or others.

JB4, no question.
IMO get the PPK for the exhaust noise, not for performance. Price per HP is wayyyy too high.

That's only for N55's. No one has "cracked" the PPK for N54's - as far as I know of.

There is also the flash vs. piggyback debate (let's not restart it here - if you are interested, search it in the forums).
PPK - flash Cobb - Flash Dinan - Flash JB4 - Piggyback* *however, it is THE piggyback of all piggybacks and offers more add-on functionality than any other option out there. It is the Cadillac (BMW?) of piggybacks with thousands of satisfied users. Research each option and then choose according to your priority set.

PPK for the pops and burbles. I'm not sure about all them other tunes but this alone makes the car heaps more interesting for a daily driver.

I'm supposed to be getting Dinan S2 next week, but I'm having second thoughts because I don't want to lose my PPK. Decisions, decisions.

I got the PPK put in about 2 weeks ago into my 2013 135i with DCT. Total was ~$800 with install.
Rationale: PPK is a BMW part/program, and covered under warranty...it's the only one that is (Dinan is not...Dinan will pay if BMW does not but that's not the same as a warranty). Dinan is pricey, would have liked it but it's a lot of money, and still aftermarket. The others are piggybacks. Nothing wrong with that per se. I figured the PPK could return some of its cost by way of resale value, as it's all BMW. I think on the DCT it's 20HP and up to 30 lb-ft. There's some difference in the sport mode. None in the default non-sport mode. |

Did you ever get that Dinan Stage 2 Tune? If so how do you find the sound difference compared to the PPK?

I did get the Dinan tune and I'm completely happy with it. It's just what I thought it would be, plus the pops and crackles are all still there.
