Tire fitment on 135is
Could I fit a 265 on my rim? I have 18x8.5 rear I want to widen tires for more grip and of course looks I'm going to run a 15mm spacer in the rear. Anyone know if I can go that wide or is a 255 the widest?

I had a 255/30 on 8.5 and the tire sit straight up.. Was a nice flush look.. I have a 255/30 on a 9.5 and its a little stretched..
I wouldn't do that wide of a tire on a smaller rim unless you are going 4x4... I hope this helps take some of the guessing out.. Maybe another member has done it.. G |

It really depends on the brand of the tire you are looking at. I'm running a 265 on the 261 M Sport rims and it is almost flush, a little bulge but looks nice. I'm running Falken Ziex 612s though. I think Michelin PSS would be way too wide in a 265 for that rim as they run much wider than Falken. So how wide you go definitely will depend on brand and model of tire.

I can post up a couple of pics later. I really like the tires so far. Have only had them about a week so far though. For a reasonably priced all season performance tire they have actually impressed me. I paid $550 for the set including tax and everything. Ride quality is great. Although I only have the stock run flats to compare to. Wet and dry traction is amazing. They have also been gripping well on the ice so far. Haven't had them in the snow yet so I can't chime in on that. They are also much quieter than the stock run flats. Overall a great tire for how cheap they are. Probably not something great for the track but definitely a very good street use all season. I'll try to post up a few pics for you tonight so you can see what the 265 looks like on that rim.

I was able to attach a couple of pics. They aren't very good, but you can see there is pretty much no bulge in the sidewall at all.

Technically speaking, a 265/35/18 is one size too wide for that wheel width.

Its normally not a good idea to put the 265 tire on 8.5" rim. The Falken 265 might be ok, because its actually not a wide tire, but I personally wouldn't choose to do it. If you look at a performance tire such as the Goodyear Eagle F1 asymmetric (for example) in 255/35/18, its fairly certain to give a wider contact patch and more grip than the 265 Falken. 245/35/18 is also a good choice, particularly if you choose a sports tire that has square shoulders. You don't get much advantage from making the tire sidewall buldge out. It can actually cause the handling of the car feel soft and sloppy if the tires have soft sidewalls.
