Which Radar Detector?
Just wanted to get everyones opinion on any radar detectors they have tried. I have heard a lot of good things about BEL Vector995, anyone with any experience with it.

Yeah I have a Valentine One...saved me about 10 times now in just a month. I love it and it works flawlessly.

Wow - I am so glad to hear the Valentine One is recommended by folks here. I just ordered it on Thursday based on the same great recommendation from my local BMW club members.

i was thinking about getting a V1 as well after hearing all the good comments about it. just how accurate is it...i'm sorta having doubts about it detecting cops very accurately though, and where would you put the damn thing, it looks pretty big

What do people think about the Escort Solo S2 cordless radar detector? It seems pretty powerful, and it's cordless so u can just stick it anywhere, no wires involved.

You don't want a wireless detector. They all cycle on an off very rapidly. Even though this happens very quickly you can still miss a potential problem.

To amplify on the posts recommending the V-1. Valentine Research customer service is absolutely top drawer and units can be upgraded as radar technology evolves. One of my V-1s is over 10 years old and has been upgraded with the latest.
While the V-1 costs more and Mike Valentine is making serious money <g> he is the acknowleged guru of radar protection. You won't be disappointed in his product. |

I have the passport escort X50(newest version i think). This radar is over 100 dollars less expensive than the v1, it has a longer range, but the only thing its lacking is the arrows. Works flawlessly.

I have mine mounted right above the rear view mirror on the passenger side. I have the power cord (which is just a thing telephone line) tucked between the A-Pillar and window then running through the glove box and currently plugged into the cig lighter. You can hard wire them in as well. Just don't use anything in the fuse box. It seems that everything there is in a constant powered on state. Use a vampire clip and plug into the cig lighter power supply or the flash light power supply in the glove box...which you can also by an adapter from BMW that turns the flash light power supply into a dc outlet. Also as for the power of the V1 it's nice to have the counter and arrows, ie your going down the road coming up on a construction site and get a hit...well it could just be the sign that tells you your speed, well with the V1 if you get a 2 then you know that it could be a cop and a speed sign.(I do not condone speeding in construction zones, however after hours when there is no one there is a different story). It is also nice to know if they are a head of you or behing you.

V1 .... no brainer
I have had a V1 for 6 years and have not had a ticket yet. Once you get used to the arrows you never want to be with out them. If I am
going 100 mph down the intersate and I get a small K band alert to the left or right out of the blue I know it is not a cop and just look for the building that has the door openers. In the program mode I turn off K band in the city. The V1 to detectores is what BMW is to cars. Thanks, John |
