BMW kinda did the same thing with the Mini Cooper. Lots of upscale materials, and a few that are so cheap you just gotta scratch your head...

We are just now replacing the engine in our '82 528e. Had 625,000 on it, still ran pretty well, but wouldn't pass smog anymore. Must keep it going though!

Actually, they are not the same company, they are sister companies. Hyundai bought Kia at a bankruptcy auction in 1998. It is the same relationship that BMW had to Land Rover when it bought them.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/196667.stm Saying that poor quality in Kia's translates into poor quality for Hyundai's is like saying that BMW's quality somehow went down when they acquired the Rover group. :iono: |

It's already scored 3 pages of coverage on a BMW enthusiast site. And this isn't the first time the Genesis has shown up in a thread on this site. It isn't even a question now of whether it will get cross-shopped or not. It is already being cross-shopped right here on a BMW site, before it has even been released.
Sure, there will be people who won't consider it at all. Some have already posted that they won't. That's fine. All the better for them. But that won't stop the other folks who have already started cross-shopping, and will continue to cross-shop when they come out. |

The reliability figure is due to low penetration into the market. You sell less usually mean less dealers and user can screw it up = more reliable. Just check on Honda and Toyota's recall in the past 10 years. They are about the same as everyone else with some pretty big fuck up recalls too. |
