oil leaking from oil filter housing

as the title says I have some oil leaking from oil filter housing, I scheduled an appointment for service tomorrow morning . I have jb4 installed and wanted opinions weather I should leave installed( disables of course) or go in and take the entire system out if the car. My car does have bmw warranty so that is my concern regarding the question , thanks

where are you seeing oil? i believe my filter housing is leaking also and it looks like its running down above the cylinder head mating surface below the vanos solenoids

Mine is leaking right where the cap seals with the housing

I just had this fixed, could be the oil filter housing gasket, is it making a little puddle right next to the cap? Look behind it towards the front of the car, you may be able to se it coming up from the seal. Its a $13 part if you think you want to try it yourself. It seems to leak more on a cold start when the car is at idle.

Are you guys sure who ever has been changing your oil is also changing the large O-Ring on the oil filter housing cap. ???

Typically the cap-to-filter-body leak is caused by either not positioning the 'O' ring in the groove correctly, or not lubricating the 'O' ring before screwing the cap on.

I would say definately check the O-ring on the top of the housing.

Some workshops dont replace these on filter changes and they can get damaged then causing a leak.

The genuine BMW filters do come with new seals usually but if they have fitted a non genuine filter them they might not have had a new one supplied to fit.

Is it necessary to change both housing gaskets? From what I can see the only one that's leaking is the front one (closest to the radiator). Also my dealer wants $40 for both gaskets is there a better place to buy these?
