Possible to find a front bumper already painted?
So I have this "new to me 135"
Low mileage. Near perfect condition. Except … the guy who had it before me dinged the front bumper. Not enough for it to show on Carfax, but enough that he repainted it. Well I noticed in bright sunlight that it's just slightly "off." Car is Deep Sea Blue. Which has a really wonderful green undertone. The bumper seems to be lacking the green hue. Appears more purple. I imagine DSB is a difficult color to match. Does anyone know if it's possible to order a factory painted bumper? Or do you guys have suggestions on how to proceed? Should I go to Maco? |

I doubt you can order a factory painted bumper
If you want it 'correct', you prob need to have it repainted by someone who knows what they're doing, correct paint code etc Not Maaco, but some authorized BMW paint/body shop > $$$ or just leave it. you're probably the only one who notices it |

But - here's the thing - the only reason I would repaint it is for myself. If I were the only one who DIDN'T notice it, I would be LESS likely. lol. So I'll check with BMW. Thanks! |

Keep in mind that sun and weather have likely affected the color of the whole car. So a "factory" painted bumper will probably not match. That is why you need a expert body shop that can match the current color of your color starting with the factory color code.

No, BMW does not sell painted bumpers. But if the bumper is not damaged then painting it again is the way to go. You can get a good paint job from $600-$1,000 and BMW would charge probably $2,500 for an unpainted one. My 6 is DSB. It's not hard to match really. My bumpers have both been painted. But keep in mind that bumpers often look a shade off from certain angles, even from the factory. Start looking at bumper ends as you drive around town. You'll be surprised how many look a shade off. It has to do with the plastic and how the metal flake lays. It's quite noticeable.

I would speculate that the previous owner took it to a generic shop that didn't use the correct paint code, or perhaps had a friend do it. A paint shop that regularly works on BMW/Mercedes etc. will know how to match a bumper correctly. The fact that it looks more purple than green is the clue here. You get what you pay for!
