I'd never even heard of that car but you had me interested so I looked it up. The 135 will take it by a full second, stock for stock in the 1/4. It also traps much higher. See this link below

If the xr6t can get the power down with a clean launch, then it should be a dead heat to 100kph. This is IF the ford can get a clean launch...
The 135i should win on a technical track, but the xr6t would have an upper hand if the track was mainly composed of straights. |

Considering the Ford is around 300kg heavier, has a massive interior that can seat 5 adults and costs about $30k less, it holds up pretty darn well against the 135i.
The 4.0L turbo is one of the best engines of our time. I would think that'd it would come down to driver skill (whoever could launch better) for the winner to be decided. Stock against an auto XR6T I would be slightly worried due to my lack of consistent launching ability - since Aussie journos have been able to pull 0-100kph in 5.1s with its more luxury focused brethren the G6E Turbo. With PROcede is another story

Like I said, I think it would give our cars a serious run for the money.

Stock for stock, the 135i will outrun the XR6T from a dig and roll. It is no competition. It's a different story if you spend a few grand on the XR6T though as it's an excellent modding platform.

Updated specs here: http://www.carpoint.com.au/car-resea...d=12CA1407AF8C I must say that having owned both the xr6t and 135, the ford wins hands down on quality, reliability, straighline acceleration and value. BMW wins on handling / agility. Last edited by banglemangle; 12-25-2010 at 05:44 AM.. Reason: banglebungle |

Gents,
Being that i currently own an FPV Typhoon(which is the big brother of the Xr6 turbo) and the N55 turbo, and constantly drive both cars, i really could not say... The ford and the 135i have a flash tune and therefore are not standard. Problem with the ford is that it is very difficult to launch and seems to suffer greater turbo lag, but once it comes on, "hang on"....Over the quarter mile the 135i would definately launch better, and hold a nice lead, but once you get to the last 100m or so the ford would be hunting the 135i down.. My gut feeling is that the BMW would hang on.... Both vehicles are 6MT Power wise for comparison: Ford dynoed at 273rwkw...... BMW 135i N55 - assumed 220-225rwkw.... P.S. I would love to take both cars out and do some runs but i serving my time for speeding. Only 4.5 months to go before i get my license back |

Looks like some here have rose-colored glasses.
Best times in MOTOR magazine: XR6 Turbo auto 0-100km/hr in 5.2s, 400m in 13.4s @ 174km/hr (May 2008) More commonly returns 5.7-6.1s and 13.9-14.2s XR6 Turbo manual 0-100km/hr in 5.2s, 400m in 13.5s @ 172km/hr (Jun 2008) Manual is difficult to launch and most commonly returns 5.9-6.0s and 14.1-14.3s 135i Coupe manual 0-100km/hr in 5.6s, 400m in 13.8s @ 168km/hr (Nov 2008) However most (if not all) tests of the 135i have been on poor road surfaces. Note that these times are logged by GPS with a Performance Box. They do NOT include 1 foot rollout. Therefore these times a typically a few tenths slower than what you see quoted in quarter mile timeslips. The data indicates that XR6T and 135i are very similar in straight line grunt, and observed differences are due mostly to launch differences. Around a track is a different matter. At Wakefield Park, the 135i did a 1:09.9 versus 1:11.5 for the XR6T sedan manual and 1:11.7 for XR6T Ute manual, all with the same driver and in the same conditions (Sep 2008).
