It has some angles that make it look really awkward, but overall, this design has aged incredibly well, and actually looks like something new...

I’m amazed at how practical my car is; it takes some good bavarian engineering to be able to fit a euphonnium, french horn, tenor saxophone and two stuffed backpacks along with tennis gear into just the trunk! I’m going to go out tomorrow and take some nice DSLR shots of my car, hopefully in an empty parking lot with no interruptions, and get them up on Wheelwell (and here too, obviously) for my #InsideTheBuild column I was offered . I’ll be doing my best to hide all those damned swirl marks that the body shop introduced...

You almost made a bad move on your part. Obviously you should have consulted us first. Don't let that happen again.

The only part of the car they may look a little off is the front. Looks awesome from all other perspectives.

It’s kind of unfortunate the 1 series coupe is kind of forgotten. But when you consider the barrier to get the same or similar performance will cost more than $50k, you can see why a very small number of people who know, still seek 1 series out. It was kind of ahead of its time in some respect while staying true to old school driving dynamics.

It’s very comfortable, I can see well out of the windows, looks great in a stately way, is quick, handles pretty good without modification. It’s really hard to find anything better that it that you’d want to send money on. While I’d love an M2, I just don’t think spending $60k on one would make me any happier than driving my 135is with Dinan S2.

I do think I might do some minor handling mods. Just changing to better and upsized tires made a nice improvement. I’m guessing a better sway bar would help, but not really sure what I should do to improve handling without redoing The whole suspension. I’ve read mixed feedback from many of the forum members on the performance suspension, so don’t think that’s my answer.

I’d also love a cosmetic 1M conversion but switching out the rear wheel arches doesn’t seem simple and not something I could do.

Introduced to the US in 2008 and sold here until 2013 and they've never even heard of a 1 series. Most people are clueless about our little secret.
So true, I went to discount tire last month for some new rear tires and the guy looks at my car and goes "huh what kind of BMW is this"??

Keep in mind my car is debadged.

They're great cars but it sounds like you're emotionally attached to it which is why you won't sell it. There's nothing wrong with that but I don't think you're keeping it because of what the car is. I parted mine out and won't let it go, so we're in a similar boat.

Hey Matt, glad that you decided against getting rid of your 1. You have contributed a lot to this community and it would be a shame to lose yet another one of the really active members here.

Like you, I do have a bond w this car, though mine is just a "lowly" 128i, still I love it and always look back when I leave it parked. Granted mine is a daily here in the NorthEast, with all the battle scars to prove it, I still try to keep it tidy (and get dirty in a second), well maintained and taken care of.

Mine has done a lot of duties, baby carrier (still do even though my little one is three now, he loves riding w me every morning), hauler (lived in Midwest for a year and moved stuff in it, no issues with back and forth driving) and work car (job in Midwest had me driving at least 100mi a week in the backroads of the Northwest burbs of Chicago). It did many roles, nothing needed but regular maintenance and occasional fixes. If mine was as lucky as others' cars here (Summer drivers), I think my Jet Black paint would have looked better. It still cleans up nicely, but I would love if it stayed in the garage more during inclement weather to "preserve" it a bit.

But anyway, enjoy yours in good health man. Parting it out means you have a clean slate to start with! Cheers!

It's the same, only different...

Having both a 1 and an x1 is pretty cool, I'm very fond of both.
I've driven both! And an x3.... and an x5.... and an x6..... I've driven most of the offerings lol. Once the wife's Mazda dies i'll definitely be replacing it with an x3 or an x1.

It's perfect, flies under the radar until it flies through traffic lol

Not so much tbh, I have great memories with it but I really don't get all that emotionally attached to cars. The experience however, that's something I don't want to give up! I could see myself swapping for an AW/coral red 1er in the future........

Thanks man appreciate the kind words! 128 or 135, these cars are a boatload of fun. I'm also in the NE so i know what you mean about battle scars. I've been afraid to give it a good detailing after this past winter and the trials I've put it through lol.

I'm very jealous of your 100mi/week commute on back roads, I would kill for a good commute these days. I didn't know how spoiled I was back in NJ. Glad to hear you've had a similar and equally pleasant experience with your 1er
