Thinking about selling my 135!?!?!
I know I've been planning to hold on to it indefinitely, but I'm starting to think about selling my baby and getting an M2.
Is this just a mad fever that's taken over my mind, or is this a good idea? Interested in hearing from some of you who have been 1er fanatics for a while. I've been DD'ing a 135 for 6 years now. Maybe it's time for a change?

I go through this every so often, then I come back to reality, which for me is, these cars aren't worth a lot, plus I'd miss it...and exactly then, I go to the classifieds and pull the car off. Its just not worth it.

I go back & forth on this as well.
I've had my 135i convertible since it was new in 2012. It only has 52k miles and I still mostly love it, despite it being something of a money pit (water pump, OFHG). So I could go with a new M2 or a 240i convertible. But then I ask myself if I want to get back into car payments when I basically still like the 135i I already have. So I don't know what I will do...

Have ya driven the M2 yet? (in a Chandler Bing voice...) (yeah, sorry not sorry...)
Seriously tho- spend an afternoon with one and based on others reviews you'll either love it or hate it, and that should help with the decision process...

The thing that I find funny is that those who want a new 2 series always gravitate to the top of the line model M2. What does that say about the 135? The old middle of the road can only be replaced by the current best? So there must really be something about these cars that stirs the soul and creates that warm and fuzzy fun feeling.
If you're considering of selling I'd look at what it is you like more about the newer car and see if there is a suitable upgrade to your existing one. It might end up saving money and bringing a new found love. |

Spend some time in an M2 before you make the mental decision to go for one. I was really disappointed.
Too much tech, steering sucks, chassis feels too big, rev matching is stupid, seating position sucks, my list goes on and on. |

If you're bored with your 1er and feel the need to make a change, then absolutely look in to it. Just make sure you consider everything before you jump in to something new so you don't have any regrets afterwards.
BTW, everything I've read about the M2 says it's a total blast to drive. Have yet to drive one myself. Haven't tried too hard either because I don't want to be tempted. Pretty happy with my 1er and don't want or need the added expense of a new car and I've made some emotional car purchases in the past and don't want to get caught up in that again.

M2 CS or bust...
If you dont need a backseat, the new Z4 coming out is quite sexy, or you can get the Toyota Supra (Z4 Coupe). I thought I would never sell my Z3 and only did after 2nd kid arrived, so my convert has to have a back seat, the 135i is just temporary, will be replaced with 6er vert, M4 vert, or M2 vert if they ever come out with one before my CPO expires summer 2019. I have no attachments to the 135i, its nice but not something that qualifies as keep forever in my book.

Test some cars you're interested in and see what you like. M2 is deffo an upgrade over the 135i, I've driven a manual one with MPE. Also considering selling it this year, but probably gonna hold onto it for another year.

I've been thinking of the same thing since my 1'er is having this cold start cough as I put it. Been spending to much money on parts and labor only to have it do the same thing over and over again. Although I'd love to stick with a sports car, the new XC40 Volvo looks awesome and for the price, what you get, looks like a bargain to me.

I haven't driven an M2 yet. Going to ask my dealership about a day loan as a serious potential buyer.
I don't consider the 240 an upgrade any more than I thought the 235 was (which is why I passed on it). Sure it's faster, but it feels sterile and the steering is inferior to the 135. It also (IMHO) has insufficient brakes for how fast it can go and just feels "mushy". The M2 is pretty much the only car I am interested in. Spent some autocross time in an M4 and it's too big and cumbersome for me. MT is non-negotiable, which pretty much rules out anything by Audi, Infiniti, Volvo, etc, etc... The ONLY other car that even comes close to being interesting enough is a GT350. Similar price point and it's a pretty special car. But for a DD, it is a gas guzzler (not that my 23 MPG of 93 octane average is anything to be proud of). Also, the new mustangs feel big just like the M4 to me. So it's down to the M2 (maybe a GT350) or keep my 135. If I keep my 135, maybe some more mods might reinvigorate the experience. Thinking about a DP and FMIC upgrade as well as the BMW Perf. Suspension. Not interested in meth or anything like that. I could put $3k-$5k into my 1er and it might just feel like a new car. Although I am beginning to get the creaks and noises of an aging car (78k miles). Like Esteban said, it would be nice to not saddle myself with a $1k/mo car payment. I CAN afford it, just not sure I WANT to.

To me, the M235iA felt like a more refined 135i, both in terms of driving and interior. I don't like the rear of the F22, but M2 with its wider fenders looks 10x better and I'd buy it based on the way the whole thing looks, to be honest. 135i steering is superior to the M2's rack, but that's about it. |

I agree the M2 wins on looks by a country mile. I understand the M2's EPS is tuned much better than the M235 or 240, but is still an EPS. If I keep the 1er, it's getting a DP, FMIC, and BMW PS (with M3 RSFBs). I just don't want to sink $4k into the car and figure out a year later that I still want something new. But maybe that $4k will make me fall in love all over again...

PS - if I had to do it over again, maybe I would've got the Dinan springs instead of the BMW ones because they are a bit lower. Don't think the Dinan springs are available any longer, at least not from Dinan.

You can refresh suspension for far less than $4k
M3 TRW control arms (from ECS) + Whiteline RSFB inserts or 2 piece bushings + diff lockdown bracket. Heck for less than 4K I got the above and Ohlins R&T. Koni or Billstein would be far less.

I found on my older cars that modding them helped renew my interest. Consider a tune, suspension, exhaust... even just a short shifter or a subwoofer package. Might keep your interest up for a bit longer.
Also consider an autocross class and event, find more fun things to do with what you have. |

M2 over 135i all day long. Like some already mentioned, the only thing M2 falls short against E82 is its steering feel.
Even that is something you will get used to in a week or so and probably wont look back. |

I've got a test drive set up for Saturday, which should shed a lot of light on the decision. Until recently there have been no dealerships near me with one on the lot.
