I've had some issues but nothing major (2010 N54), since I got the car 3 months ago.
My spark plugs were all-black because my injectors (index 07) were leaking. Nothing major, but the previous owner never replaced the plugs (30k miles).
Got new plugs, had a faulty low pressure fuel sensor that I changed as well. Ordered new index 12 injectors, replaced them and the engine runs smooth as a baby face.

My chargepipe (OEM) blew off (car is stock, except for a Magnaflow cat-back), so I replaced it for a cp-E chargepipe.

After that I had errors regarding wheel speed sensors and o2 sensors (pre-cat, bank 1), replaced them all last week just to be on the safe side.

Now I'll try to find out which HPFP I have, if it's made by Bosch I'll probably get the newer one ready to be replaced.

It's a fantastic car and if you have a scanner, proper tools, knowledge of the commom N54 issues and can DIY most of things it's a no-brainer.

I haven't had many problems, but the ones I did were very expensive to fix. Biggest was the A/C system--had to replace the evaporator, which it seems to happen to many of these. That was just over $2k. Plus, had to have the window regulator on both the passenger and driver sides replaced--$500 each. According to the dealer, this happens when you don't put the windows down and up on a regular basis--they need to do that for lubrication purposes.
The good thing is I bought it 3 years ago (it's a 2008 135i) for only $20k with only 28k miles on it.

I have an '08 and have the same evaporator issue. Summer of 2015 AC worked but was weak. This March had my indy shop recharge the system and put in a dye. My AC is still working fine 6 months later.

The $2K comes from having to remove the dash. a 12 hour labor job. The evap is $90 I'm told.
My indy mechanics told me that if it holds pressure just get recharged once a year for $80.

I feel your pain.. this car is very expensive to repair. (get ready for the wastegate rattle and new turbos at some point. And WP... the water pump will go between 60K - 80K)

I just bought my 09' 3 days ago, the only issues have to do with my radio. If my car is sitting in the sun the display just about completely fades away. Also I have no Sirius/XM radio. Doesn't receive the preview channel or anything, just gives me a message to call Sirius.

Okay, it's now almost a year since I last posted. I have 90,000 miles on my CPO 2008 135i. I had to replace the fuel injectors, the spark plugs again and now the ignition coils, then I upgraded the LPFP to give my HPFP and Turbo more fuel at the track. Most problems went away, but we just replaced the HPFP again because of some low pressure readings on my Cobb AP. I have the Turbo wastegate rattle that the dealer wouldn't fix under warranty, so I'll either live with it or pay $6500 to upgrade/replace my turbos.
I probably will get a Surge Tank for the LPFP because at the track with a low amount of fuel, I will lose fuel pressure when the gas sloshes away from the LPFP!
Both my HID Adaptive headlights went bad ($850 each), and I replaced the extra Oil cooler with a double competition ER Oil Cooler because it was overheating and going into limp mode. But now with everything working and the Cobb AP custom tune, I am getting 400 HP and 550 Torque.

2009. N54. Only issue I ever had with it was really squeaky brakes, which got replaced under warranty at around 10K. Granted, my car is fairly low km so that helps.

I have owned my 2012 DCT N55 Convert for a year now, and I have 92k miles on it. I have had a few things to deal with but not anything crazy:
-Software update to solve lurching issue
-Brake sensor re-attached- seemed to be removed by dealer at one point and not reattached
- New front suspension (local roadwork, unmarked hole left on a dark roadway-ouch)
-Oil filter housing replaced due to a leak
-pinhole fuel line leak repaired
-full tune up
Things I need fixed currently:
-chirping climate control fan
-alignment
-leaking washer fluid/new motors
-side mirrors- glass stopped working, cannot reposition

My 2012 N55 :

Faulty Ignition Coil CPO covered
OFHG leaking - covered under warranty
Valvetronic motor replaced under CPO warranty.
Drivers side window motor replaced under CPO(window going up then back down)
Chargepipe popped off(not covered under CPO, DIYed)

Not gonna add to the poll as I have only owned the car since August, but I can say for certain that these cars seem to be a mixed bag as mine had tons of good records but the list thus far is still impressive and this is just what I've had done:

2008 135i: 59,000 miles: Completely Stock

-CAS, TPMS, Bluetooth Telematic and PDC Module Replacement and programming
-Malfunction in rear brake sensor
-Third Brake light replaced
-Turbos replaced
-Coils and Plugs
-All Fluids
-Oil filter housing, valve cover, front main and oil pan gasket
-walnut blasting
-PCV system
-Both door lock actuators
-Passenger headlight washer nozzle
-All 6 Fuel injectors and both primary 02 sensors

I bought mine 2011 135i DCT N55 a year ago, now my car has 57k mileage.

Recently did MHD flash on my car but all the problems/repairs finished prior to fully stock car except the Performance Exhaust. I will not list any routine/scheduled maintenances since they are required no matter what kind of car you are driven.

Here's the things:
- Passenger side Adaptive Headlight Module failure.
- Evaporator leaking in AC system.
- Found leaks under DCT fluid pan due to O-ring and fluid pan gasket/seal. Did the fluid change @ the same time to save labor, the dealer claims that they will reuse the old transmission fluid and put them in after repair which I will have to pay $200 if I want fresh DCT fluid. Such an environmentally friendly company
- Oil Filter Housing Gasket leaking
- High Pressure Fuel Pump failure and Rail pressure sensor failure

The good thing is that most repairs were covered by CPO except for the Adaptive Headlight Module which cost me about $700. My car will be ready for another 50k mileage.

2012 N55. Bought June '15 with 46k mi - just a month out of warranty...
Now nearly 67k miles.
Oil Filter Housing Gasket leak.
Replacing gasket, serpentine belt, tensioner, guide & deflector pulleys, upper radiator hose, upper oil cooler hose, and O-rings.
Turns out Oil Filter Housing has some stripped threads, so that's going, too.

Based on all the swirl marks I've discovered in the paint, I do wonder how meticulously mine was maintained by the previous owner.

I know this goes against the popular opinion here but that's one of the reasons I buy my cars new. Don't want to inherit somebody's problems. Many people who buy used keep their car for a couple of years and then move on. Not me. I hang on to them as long as I possibly can. I realize it's more economical to buy used but I like to start with a clean sheet of paper.

I break them in properly and aggressively service them (1st oil change at 1200 miles, then 5K oil changes, etc). Professional detail a few times a year. I understand this costs me more but it's worth it to me. If my 1er was to get totaled today I'd probably buy a new M240i and keep it for as long as possible and treat it the same way.

202,000 km and only 6 1/2 years old... solid as a rock, still extremely reliable, and no where near the end of its life. I hope you all get to enjoy as many happy miles/kms on this car as I have.

Anyone have a creaky/poppy dash when hitting bumps? Getting a lot of noise from the passenger side by the vent/A pillar. Could it be loose? Drives me crazy

I have that. Not sure if it's vent, A-pillar, or behind glove box.
Annoying on bumpy roads in town. At speed, or decent surfaces, I don't notice it much.
Bought a mechanics stethoscope to find and squelch it, but haven't let anyone else drive it while I do the investigation.

Adding to the list, or the noise,here.....
Just picked up a 2013 135is 7sp DCT and it has every availbale option on this car...literally. Much different vehicle than my 2001 330xi,
Some quirky things, all First-world oddities:
· one key works remotely (not needing to plug it into the dash) another doesnot.
·Idle surges at seemingly random moments
· Voice activated system is not very stable...maybe it needs time to acclimate to my voice?
· Sluggish off the line; haven't tried Launch Control

modest complaints, until I get to understand and know this car.

I have put @ 7500 miles (currently @ 65k) on my 2012 135 DCT & I have not had any problems yet .

'11 135i

Water pump went at 72k(replaced that and thermostat)

Valve cover gasket at 69k
Dct pan gasket at 70k (did fluid flush at same time)

That's it though. Car has been rock solid (more so then either of my n54 cars)

Things that need to be done are sparks (don't know when previous owner changed them) and battery (crank getting slightly longer especially in cold, battery looks to be the original)
