But is that using the apps portion or just over bluetooth? I'm trying to make sure I'd get to keep searching and album art showing up, thumbs up, thumbs down, etc.

Nothing like that will work on iDrive pre-2016, just the bluetooth connection. Song name/artist/album is shown, and you can control song skipping/volume.

Well, doesn't matter. Passed up the phone. Still not ready to give up the rest of iOS yet. |

Not sure if iOS supports that kind of interface on pre-2013 either TBH

Got the Android phone just because.
It's been a nightmare with the car. It DOES connect but won't change the app the sound is coming from OR it just doesn't work until you reconnect. It connects and lists the title of a youtube video or if spotify is open primarily (and youtube isnt) then it just says unknown and doesn't play music or anything. Sometimes it works flawlessly... but uncommon (10-20%?). In order to fix it, I have to turn off bluetooth on my phone, turn it back on, and then manually pair the phone through the car's menus. I don't have to do the first pairing process but I do have to select the phone and wait for it to sync up with the phone and then choose the bluetooth menu... and then open up spotify on my phone (and it had to already be open in the background) and then press play... Super super super annoying and makes it almost worthless. I am not sure how to get rid of this issue. God forbid I don't have spotify open btw because then if I do open the app, it will 100% not work until I do that manual reconnect process. Really really annoying. |

With tune2air, do you have to have both the usb and aux cord plugged in at the armrest? My 2011 uses an aux in cable and i just play spotify off it and use the phone to change songs ect. I would love to control it off the steering wheel and such like it was the radio if this would allow it.

Maybe not entirely relevant, but...
I use a $15 bluetooth-FM thingy that works fairly well, sound quality is actually decent, but it interferes with other frequencies when not paired, other than that it serves it's purpose just fine. My favorite thing is the voice. The pairing voice is a very clear and formal-sounding English man, the "call from #" voice is an Asian woman with extremely bad English and really terrible recording quality, I find it highly entertaining that they went through the effort to do the pairing voice, but not the calling voice.

Mine's a 2012 build with Combox and every ConnectedDrive shizzle available back then. Proof from today that Spotify over BT is working. What phone with which Android version are you using?

I sometimes have to go to the Telephone menu to select my phone from the list of Bluetooth devices, but I think that's only when I turn the car on and THEN turn phone Bluetooth on. Otherwise, it all connects automatically - also if I get out of the car and get back in after a few mins (Spotify starts playing too). Try reinstalling your phone and deleting all BT devices in iDrive. Not sure what else could help besides having the dealer flash the newest vehicle software available (if there's any... our cars are heaps now). Tell them you're having issues with cellphone connectivity and they'll do it.
