Happy One Year Anniversary, my precious 1!

There were good times, too, don't worry!

You made the N54 and N55 cars jealous with your pristine intake ports:

You got some nice-looking new shoes:

Your Cadillac-like ride quality was remedied, and you got much less clumsy:

You got some more power in that ol' ticker of an engine:

We still have much to do! Your flywheel is making clunks, you need a new belt (easy peasy), your seats just can't handle the new levels of grip, that passenger side headlight needs to be corrected, you'll be needing a new 3rd brake light soon, your brake pads will be toast by the end of the next track weekend, and your front sway bar just doesn't cut it anymore.

Other people may not care that you're either directly next to them, staying in your own lane, or they don't care that the car in front of you is pulling off, making you slow down unexpectedly, consequently leaving you with some cosmetic wounds. I do care, and that's why I have to send you back to Lindsay Collision, just down the street, because they don't care as much as I do for you...

Thanks for an awesome (and mod-intensive) year! I'm looking forward to this next one, beginning tomorrow...

That took forever to write, BTW.

The car looks awesome, man! I really wish mine had some color (mine is Space Gray).

I had the same Sport Editions for my winter tires when I was in NJ. I bought some cheap BMW emblems off Amazon (these ones). They were $9 last year, price is now $30 which is a bit steep... check eBay. I think it made the wheels look a lot less out of place on the car.

I really want to change up my wheels and go to a square setup. Is that what you are running? I keep thinking about EC-7s but they only come in 18s and I don't think I want to go any lower profile than my stock 17" wheels. Also hard to justify the prices of those wheels. I think I paid $90 each for my Sport Editions!

I like these wheels better, but that is just me.

Though both are very nice.

I really like space grey, too! What I really want is Montego Blue, which is lighter and therefore not quite as difficult to maintain as my Monaco Blue. Blues just always look right on BMWs, my dad’s former E39 was in Orient Blue, which I think is just about the prettiest color ever, following Valencia Orange and Ford’s Ruby Red Tricoat Metallic, which are stunning colors...

Mine are in 17x7.5 square with an ET42 offset, with a 10mm hub-centric spacer in the rear to complete that stance . I love the way it rides and handles (with lots of suspension parts) on mere 225-section tires. One day I want to get some serious DForce LTW5 wheels in 17x9 ET41 and cram some fat 255-section tires all around, especially since those wheels weigh a ridiculous 16 lbs and are fairly priced for the quality...

I didn't realize there were so many blues! There are a few guys on this forum with LeMans blue and I envy them. I agree with you on the Ford red - that is a sharp color, even better than Mazda's soul red.

225 square is my short-term goal, mainly because you don't have to make many changes to the car to get them to fit. I don't think wheels will happen for a while though. My most recent mod was Tacoma (new daily driver) so I have some freedom to make the 1er more track focused now. My next mod is driver mod, then I'll change what doesn't work on the track.

I got them in May of last year when one of the original runflats got a severe puncture (looks like it got shot ), so I took the opportunity to get some decent summer tires and some nicer-looking wheels on the car. I kinda regret not waiting and doing more research now, especially after finding out that 9" wide would fit up front with some 255 tires on them, for only $20 more per wheel... I like mine, though, they look good and, contrary to some reviews, held up very well to a season of HPDEs and daily duty.

Just ordered an MFactory 1.5-way LSD for my car, along with new output seals, new ring gear bolts, Loctite 5970, fresh diff carrier bolts. Might order the E60 finned cover, but not sure yet...

I'll be rebuilding a donor 3.73 diff with the LSD unit, so the downtime will be minimal, and I'll learn a lot in the process.

I'm super excited for this, it's going to completely change the way the car behaves.

I got my LSD installed!!!
Name: IMG_1715.JPG

I didn't install fresh diff bushings, since we didn't have the right tools, and I know what a pain it is to try without the right tools, and I didn't want to have the car down for the time it'd take to get the right tools. So, I swapped a diff in about 6 hours (including a few breaks, dinner, and some space-casing).

Early-on review: It's very different, even just driving around neighborhood streets and neighborhood speeds. The new 3.73 gear ratio is fantastic, and this diff is SOOO much quieter and less clunky than my old one (which was AWFUL, after taking it off the car and spinning it freely). The LSD is not yet broken-in, but, so far it's very subtle in it's changes, but has fundamentally changed the character of the car (still at neighborhood speeds). It's really hard to explain with only 5 minutes of seat time. I'll get more into it tomorrow after I've done the break-in procedure (many figure-8's) and can go on a decently long drive in the car.

Congrats on getting it together!!!!

I'm super jealous. Once you really start pushing the diff you'll really see the merits - the cars I've driven with LSDs always felt way more alive in the corners than our stock ediff. Also I wanna know how it is to daily lol

Also you tear apart your old diff? Was it all chewed up?

Thanks!

I was surprised on my short little test drive how planted it felt, it was a pleasant surprise.

I haven't torn the old one apart yet, but I am curious since it felt like crap. All the clunking that I attributed to the DMFW is gone now, and it's super smooth and quiet back there (in straight lines).

LSD Update: I'm loving this thing, especially after doing some DSC module coding tweaks to allow it to play more, and to just make the car feel just that bit better.

I've changed the drückmodell (pressure modeling) on the front brakes to reflect 135i brakes (I have 4-piston brakes, so they're pretty close) and that firmed the pedal up really nicely and makes the braking much more confidence-inspiring.

I've done the usual nanny-killing as well (brake overheat power reduction, brake fade and wear compensation, brake readiness, maximum braking support, and the e-diff).

I also changed the oversteer friction coefficients to 1M values which put the car on a longer leash in DTC (DTC light on) and it now happily hangs the tail out (tested on a loose surface) until it goes too wide, and then pulls the reigns back in smoothly and predictably (not the abrubt, brutal power cuts that would normally happen). DSC (circly arrow with triangle light on) is still hands-off and fun (again, tested on a loose surface) but it's nice having the ability to have fun without killing all my safety net.

I was 16.25 (exactly) when I got mine. It's still in rough-ish cosmetic shape, but it was/is mechanically sorted...

Yea I got mine around when I turned 16 but it was in some rough cosmetic condition. (Roof oxidation, multiple door dings, trashed bumpers, etc) But I mean I got it for $6500 with a manual and only 92k miles for an 09

Mine was a bit better off. Paint was good, but there were a lot of swirls and rock chips on the front end. Got it $7k out the door, with 159k miles
