Sure as shit, it does push in. Takes a stronger push than you'd feel comfortable about.
Give a twist and all still works.

I can't fit my fingers in to pull the damn thing out though. That's a task for a rag and pliers tomorrow.

Mine does! Never on purpose though... But I've banged it with my knee several times getting in...

It’s not supposed to as far as I know. I had one replaced under warranty for this reason.

Found a pic off E90 that explains more, 2 things actually.

That bump on the back cover, that must be where the switcher rod moves to when you push it in. No other reason I can see for that bump.

On the E84 (X1), the switch is in a position where it easily catches your knee as you exit the car. It is actually a design feature to reduce the chance of injury during a crash or any other contact.

You can pull it back out if your fingers are small enough but I usually just leave it recessed.

Never pushed mine in (on purpose or accidentally) but that video makes it look pretty easy to pull back out.

How long until someone does this because of the thread and it breaks? Or is that not possible.

Anything is possible. But as juld says, it's designed to push in. I wouldn't say everyone should go and try it.
It's just a PSA that if it should happen the switch is not broken.

I'm just going to leave mine in to be different.

If you have fog lights, you push it in to activate them!
