98k, service questions

My CBS system tells me it's time for service. Yet again, I plan to do it myself.

Besides the obvious oil, spark plugs (done at 90k), cabin and air filter, brake fluid, brake pads and discs, here's some items I found in the BMW Maintenance Manual and/or perusing the forums which I am unsure about:

1. Engine coolant. Manual says: "The engine coolant has a lifetime rating and does not need to be changed except for system repairs." Well, like most (all?) owners, I had the water pump fail at 66k, so coolant was replaced then. Other people suggest replacing after 3y/36k. Should I follow the manual or should I replace it?

2. Fuel filter (in fuel tank?): every 60-80k. What is this? Should I do it?

3. Power steering fluid. Manual only says: "Check level". Others say, every 60k. Really?

4. MT gearbox, every 30k. No mention of this in the manual. What is this?

5. Differential flush, every 30k. No mention of this in the manual. Why should I bother?

6. Belt, every 100k. Again, is that really needed?

Not really trying to save pennies, but I'm a fan of "if it ain't broken,...".

Thanks for your advice.

Here is what I put together for my own reference. YMMV of course. Maintenance cost less than repairs imho.

GP's Maintenance Sched:
Oil: 0w-40 or 5w-40 (LL-01)
Oil change: every 5-7,500 mi. (BMW says 15k or annually but oil is cheap & engines are expensive)
Cabin air filter: 1-2 yr / 15k mi
Air filter: 2 yrs / 30k mi.
Brake fluid: 2 yrs / 30k mi.
Power steering fluid: 2 yrs / 30k mi
Coolant flush: 3 yrs / 36k mi.
Spark plugs: n55 60k / n54 or n55 w/ PPK @ 45k mi.
Differential/DCT/trans fluid: 60-70k mi.
Water pump, tstat, rad. cap: 6 yrs/60k (optional preventative)
Belts/hoses: as needed or 100k mi. (Typically earlier w/ OFHG leaks)
Fuel filter: 100k (in fuel tank)?
02 Sensors: 120k?

There's always debate on the maintenance items you listed. Replacing those items sooner certainly won't hurt the car.

That said, don't scrimp on the drive/serpentine belt. Those do have a tendency to fail, see this thread... http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1462063

I just replaced mine at 90k. The issue with these is the design. If a belt pulley starts to fail and sends the belt "off track", the belt can start to shred and can wind up inside the motor via the front crank shaft seal and then it gets very expensive to repair. This is the one item I would spend money on.
