10 Years later: Where are the original 2008 Owners??
Hi Everyone!
We are now 10 years removed from when the 1 series began to show up in the US. In fact, the official U.S. Release date was March 22, 2008, so technically tomorrow is the 10 year anniversary of the 1 series here. Are there any other 1ers here who are the original owner of their car?? I ordered my 135i late in the Fall of 2007. Jet Black/Coral Red. Sports Package and leather were the only two options. I can still remember my excitement when it finally went "into production," then when it was loaded on the boat to come over. Took delivery on the official Launch date. I originally joined here in February 2008 when 1Addicts was its own website. I remember being here when the first mods started showing up and how no one could figure out how to make aftermarket wheels fit, then the Advan RZ came out. Today I've still got my 135i. Shade shy of 52k miles. Few more scratches, worn side bolsters, one rear end collision at about 12k miles (damn minivans), but 10 years of non-stop fun. My 135i wasn't the only 1 series for us either. My Dad's 128i arrived in April of 2008. SGM over Black. 6 speed. Sweet car that unfortunately got totaled after a truck hit it while being driven by my brother. That car was replaced by my dad's 1 Series M Coupe which be ordered and bought new late in the summer of 2011. Supposedly one of 3 sold new in the state of Missouri and the only one sold by our dealership. He still has the 1M and its currently sitting in my parent's garage with about 2,900 miles. Long live the 1 series!!! |

Not quite 10 years, but in 2011 we (me and my father in law) ordered two 135's. One a white msport pack manual coupe, and my father in law a black dct coupe with msport. We use to go to track days together, and after driving his car on the track, I discovered that the DCT was perfect. So I sold my 6mt. A year or so later, he passed away, and I had an opportunity to buy the car from his estate, and did. I toy with selling it here and there, but ultimately, I know that for me to replace it, I'd have to spend over double what the car is worth, and there are also the memories that need to stay with us.

Representing my parent's on this. E88 was purchases outright from dealer which was in the showroom. The lady in red was lust at first sight with my parents.
It is tucked away in the garage still with about 33k miles. We will be replacing the original runflats very soon so they will fall back in lust with the car over again!

Original owner. I was looking at Z4 coupes and discovered the 1series. I bought mine to mod, and that's what I did. I even had to fight with BMW when they blamed my mods on my fuel pump failure before they fully admitted the problem. My biggest modding mistake was choosing a Procede. I really wanted a flash tune, but gave in the big HP numbers piggybacks especially with meth were producing. I late went to a flash tune without meth. I still have a no longer supported and therefore not saleable Procede if anyone want one.

I was an original owner of a "Year One Of The 1" 135i. Traded it for my current LeMans Blue 2011 135i with the DCT. Really wanted the DCT.
Wonder if anybody on the forum has my '08? It has Black Sapphire Metallic paint with the beautiful Coral Red interior and the Steptronic transmission. Last 7 of the VIN: VF24237

10 years old this month and in the shop as we speak. Smelled gas recently. You all should pull up your back seat and check the regulator and fuel pump. I can tell it's been leaking for a while but only recently noticed the smell. Anyway...
Was looking for a 135 but couldn't aford it. Dealer found this car on the west coast of Fl. and brought it over for free. Someone must have ordered it and gave it up. Loved all the options. Just what I was looking for. Less than one year after getting the car we had a child. Drove all three of us to Chicago for my daughters christening. In 2011 had a son. Bought the roof racks that have carried a stroller, surboards, fishing poles and lumber. The kids still love to ride in the car and it still makes me smile when I drive it hard. Would love to continue to mod it when funds are available. |

The shop had parked it right next to a white M2 that had just finished getting downpipes and a new exhaust. The service manager who is a friend fired the M2 up for me... The sound that thing makes... I love my 135i but sheesh that M2 is mean. Also looked at a new M5. $119,000. Holy smokes. |

Previous owner of my car put 160k on it in eight years! The exterior has seen better days, but the interior is nearly pristine. Mechanics are also solid (thank you, thank you very much), and my mods have only made it better. I just wish it looked as good as it drives...

I ordered mine early in 2009 and took delivery at the performance center mid-year. I just changed the oil today with just over 65,000 miles. Until last fall it was not my daily driver but I gave my son my SUV and put a hitch on the 1 so it could haul stuff. The brake light is lit (based upon the calculated wear interval which I suspect does not consider manual or automatic) and the check engine light is lit for the gas cap code. That is not the issue but I haven't bothered to have anybody smoke test it to find the actual issue (the code is really for a small evaporative system leak but they always think your gas cap is not on right when you get service). I really like my car but I wish BMW would give up on pretending they are my parent. I don't like the deliberately optimistic speedometer or the service interval reminders that are hard to reset. Or the warning when the temperature is at 36 degrees. When my BMW is not mouthing off, it's a nice car.

6-Speed with Heated Seats, that's it... I dunno where to begin with the PO...the paint is just awful, but some clay-barring is yielding some wonderful-ish results. Mechanically, it was pretty good, but I just made it beyond better

Had my '08 135i from May of '08 - factory order - until it was rear-ended and totalled in '16 by an uninsured driver. Replaced it with a '13 135i.
Still have what She Who Must Be Obeyed called the '08 Year One of One 'baby book'. ;-) |

Not the original owner (2nd) but bought my 2008 128i coupe in the summer of 2009. It was a March build so it is 10 years old now. Have had her ever since. Car runs like a champ, isn't bad maintenance wise at all and steers great. All strong reasons why even at 122,000 miles it is a hard choice to get rid of her. So I've chosen not to. Worst year of unexpected maintenance in 9 years was $850 to fix one of the xenons (wasn't a bulb issue) followed by something similar to fix OFHG and valve cover gasket.
Did get itchy for something with more oomph and raw feel recently. Since I've always wanted both a convertible and M car I bought a Z4 M Roadster with 20,000 miles on the odo last year to complement her. 1er is now relegated to inclement weather and practical backseat/trunk requiring duties but still a joy to drive as a DD. Not to mention overall mileage accumulation going forward on it will be cut in half for me which should extend its service life and maintenance requirements a bit. Have test driven the M235i/M240i/M2 cars and without beating a dead horse they are improvements in performance but either lack "soul" in some well documented areas or in the case of the M2 too expensive and too raucous for me as a DD. If the 1er were torned tomorrow I'd have a tough decision to make between trying to find a really low mileage '13 135i or a gently used M235i/M240i : |
