On the BMW site now looking at the models.

Anybody know what color "Crystal Blue" is?

Is it dark or light?

I think that crystal blue refers to blue water. There is no other similar color. But on the other hand it seems that the blue water is lighter than the model.

From the experience and own observations I can say that the colors on 1:18 BMW model cars are similar (more less) but do no exact match the original. What's more sometimes models which should have the same real color have different hues of it. Example of it: 330i E92 Coupe, 335i E93 Cabrio, X5 E70. All supposedly in space gray. Each hue different.

I like the bigger version a lot! I bought the medium sized model at the Welt and have been keeping my eye out for the big one. The Minichamps is sweet too!

Exclamation

Hi Guys, Just thought I would share with you some new toy models I bought recently. The 5er Polizei car was a cheap knock off... but I just had to have it! The Schuco models have really nice detailing. You can find them on Amazon.de or any good Germany toy store over here. Even the Welt and Museum sell Schuco!

Exclamation 1M model car...

So... today I dropped by my BMW Zentrum to pick up some brake parts. They were happy I stopped by because my 1M model had come in just that very day! I ordered it back in the beginning of June. I really did not expect it to come from what Scott26 said above (being sold out). But I guess I was one of the lucky first 1,000 to order one! Here are my photos...

1M model car in 1:43 scale - BMW part number: 80422211917 price was 60 euros.

Nice models! The 1M looks like a Minichamps and the LKW looks like a Schuco. Great price for the LKW!

Hey Ian,

The little LKW model with the Isetta's is really nicely made. Made from heavy metal too... not cheap plastic like most models these days.

The 1M model is also very nice. Come to think of it... I think I am gonna need a bigger display case for all these new additions to my personal model collection!

Don't know if you have Ikeas over there, but they make some nice ones for not too much money. So nice to have the glass case so you don't have to keep dusting them...

Yes, Ian - we have IKEA's over here. AND they are exactly the same like in the states (or vise versa!). lol I need to get some cases. I am running out of room in my "schrank".

Most German furniture stores actually sell display cases for model cars and trains... bc (guess what!) most Germans do collect these little models! lol

The average German is always impressing me by knowing all there is to know about cars. IF you ask the average person on the street I bet they can tell you the difference between an e36 and say an e46 and e90! Most car buts in the states wouldn't even know that stuff. lol

Over at the IAA (Frankfurt Auto Show) they are selling some various model cars. I picked up this 1:43 scale - limited edition "Mission Accomplished" i8. Its limited to 2,000 models and celebrates the Mission Impossible film. The new i8 Vision Efficent Dynamics car is featured in the new Mission Impossible film that debuets on Dec 15th, 2011.

And before anyone asks... yea... I asked IF they had any 1M 1:43 scale models... they did not. Looks like the last batch is at Leipzig Werk or online at BMW.de online toy catalog.

IF anyone is interested in order this i8 Vision model the BMW part number is: 80422211783 price was 20 euros.

I think the reason you don't find them is that only the cheapest manufacturers sell to Costco.

These are made by Kyosho or Minichamps that just price themselves out of the common market with more detail, they are simply not the same, like comparing a 135i to a Hyundai Genesis Coupe. Best chance is trying the dealer or ebay.

I encourage everyone to buy them. Worst case, put them on ebay and get back the $70 or so you paid for it, these things don't lose much value.

+1. Yup, the Kyosho or Minichamps (or even Spark!) models are TOP quality models. Then again if your gonna pay $100(plus) for a small model... you'd hope the quality is there.

The stuff you see at Costo or WallyWorld is like "Burago" quality. Very poor (cheap) detail work.

I saw a report in German Tv on a German company based in China. They make the 1:18 scale (high end) modesl for Mercedes-Benz. A 1:18 SLR Mclaren will set you back a cool 1K euros! But it is exact down to the small stickches on the leather seats and wheel. They can custom make any model you wish. As long as you have the dough.

Note that the i8 shown above did the Matchbox Nürburgring in only 14 seconds. Though this was with the optional $728 BMW Performance Stage 2 arm-shove.
