So How Many 135is Coupes has BMW Built?

I am going to try to consolidate my findings on how many 135is Coupes BMW have built in the past year.

My first round of data collection relied exclusively upon the the Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics Track and trace site at http://www.2wglobal.com/www/customerCentre/index.jsp. Over time after reading other posts and finding comments about cars being shipped by other lines and questions about how many are not shipped by Wallenius Wilhelmsen I thought I might run the VIN numbers consecutively from the spring of 2012 forward and see how many 135is types as distinguished by the "P7MFA EDITION SPORT Sports Edition" tag there are.
Starting in June 2012 BMW used a VM##### last 7 digit VIN

I found VINs WBAUC9C55CVM13251 to WBAUC9C54DVM13899 from June 11, 2012 to Dec 14, 2012 for a total of 649 VINs (I added 1 to the difference since I am counting)

Then from Dec 14, 2012 to Feb 15, 2013 it appears BMW used a VU##### Series VIN To WBAUC9C50DVU41900 to WBAUC9C51DVU41999 for a total of 100 VINs

Finally on Feb 15, 2013 the VY##### series starts with WBAUC9C5XDVY60000 and continues to today with WBAUC9C57DVY60549 for a total of 550 VINS.

So I get 649+100+550 = 1299 135i Coupe VINs from June 11, 2012 to July 5, 2013. Of these 490 have the "P7MFA EDITION SPORT Sports Edition" tag. Most of the 490 are probably 135is with a handful (maybe less than 50?) being Canadian 135i M-Sports. Without Port of Delivery records the actual number of 135i M-Sports can not be known

By using the "All VIN" method versus the "WW Track and trace method" 154 cars are added to the original 220 cars I reported at http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showt...=825806&page=4. (includes 135i M-Sport) for a total of 374 by the"All VIN" method.

This number is growing daily as BMW is busy using up their parts.

Wow, that is some pretty good research.

And looks like I have a pretty rare car then. Sweet!

In my mind they made like 5...5 or 6 maybe, and that's just the people I know with them on here. =)

I also wonder if any IS owner has actually seen another IS on the road, aside from 1addicts or similar get togethers.

One thing is for sure, a hell of a lot less than the current M3s which total over 40,000 coupes, 10,000 sedans and about 16,000 verts. Source is Bimmerfile.

The 135is should be relatively rare, but is also reproducible by adding bits to a 135i MSport coupe.

True...but you'd also have to find a lil chrome "s" to put in juuuuust the right place on the back. That's the hardest part!

I think I saw one the other morning after I dropped my grandson off. Me and the other driver both did a double take. Starting to look like the mineral grey cars are becoming more popular in the dash to final production. I am liking my car more every day.

Great data, BP, I think you'll have a few more to keep you busy, as they are still in production. It looks like the latest 135is coupe is VY60545 - Alpine White. They are up to VY60549 in 135 production thru 7/5.

I was using http://www.bmwarchive.org/vin/bmw-vin-decoder.html to see if they built mine, (which they did on 7/4).

My dealer said I had to get him the order no later than 6/15, but I see several others here have ordered later - have they officially cut off the order taking?

Ya, I was somewhat upset they are offering the new 4-series in mineral grey as I wish it were as exclusive as your blue stitching.

For me at least, the first week or so I really struggled getting acclimated to everything in the car, but after about 2 weeks, I got really comfortable and find myself liking it more and more with each passing day. I did find myself looking at a titanium silver e46 m3 parked on my block yesterday trying to figure out if that was still prettier. Maybe just a hair, but I'll take our interior and mechanics and sound.

Glad to hear you're enjoying it though. All the tech package/idrive stuff takes some getting used to I think, at least for me coming out of the S5 MMI stuff which is all backwards. I do like the voice commands, but may look for a list of all the phrases/keywords.

BMW is really cranking out the135i cars. Most of them are looking like 135is right now. Tough to keep a good thing quiet. Thanks for the link.

Greg you posted while I was typing. The car is taking some time to figure out, but each day it becomes more enjoyable to drive. I had it out on I-10 the other day and drove through a highway patrol convention. There were like 6 or more cruisers in a half mile stretch. WTF. Anyway it is a great highway car, but I have to retrain myself driving around town so the gas needle doesn't sink before my eyes.

Shhhhhhhhh! Don't tell anyone. On second thought, I hate my car, nobody should get it. O=)

I think it's a mad rush on the 1's and 135is's before they go and ruin things with the 2's and 4's. That's why I did it!

I wonder if our 135is's will ever be a collectible like other cars found at auctions? Take care of your 135is's boys and girls..... I have a feeling it just might!

Since you came up with around 90 'verts in the first go-round, I'm going to bet there's less than 150 of us who have the "topless exhaust" button feature! Man, it has sounded sweeeet with the top down on the recent warm still summer nights we've had...

I do think the 135is's will be considered a classic BMW someday. Hoping to own mine for many years to come. I'm currently trying to pick up a daily driver Honda or Toyota to run on my 35 mile roundtrip commute and keep the mileage down on my 135. Was hoping my old E46 could fill that role, but it became too unreliable/expensive to keep on the road. Driving a Honda Civic or whatever will seem pretty mundane in comparison to the 135, but I think it's worth it to save the miles.

I plane on keeping mine for a long time but will not save any miles... I will drive it and drive it as the beast was intended.. grrrr...

Ya, that's always the tough call, especially knowing there won't be any more - do you try to save the miles as best you can or do you try to enjoy it as much as possible and get your money's worth?

I took a long road trip 2 weeks after getting mine, but didn't want to put the 2,000 miles on the new car during the break-in period not to mention all the rocks and bugs and who knows what else she might endure. So after 2 months and 3 days, I'm at about 950 miles. O=|

I have not yet seen another IS in person. I'm sure there must be at least a couple others somewhere in South Florida though given the population here.

Would be cool to get multiple Deep Sea Blue 135is's together sometime. Have we seen any others on here besides myself and Elwood74? Would also really love to see the DSB's sitting next to an elusive Vermillion Red, or the one Blue Water Metallic that exists in the US as far as we know

Anyone interested in a 135is meetup sometime later this year? I'd be willing to take a long road trip for that - want to drive the car on roads with actual hills and curves! She hasn't been north of Tampa thus far.

Re the mileage issue - it is tough to balance getting your money's worth of enjoyment from driving the 135 vs. racking up a lot of miles quickly. I'm currently sitting at 2400 miles after 3 1/2 months. About 1000 of that was a weekend trip to the Tampa area. I think I would prefer to get a Toyota or Honda for the daily commute (35 miles roundtrip), and save the 135 for a once weekly commute and road trips.

Greg, I just hit 1300 miles... let me tell you something..... wooo weee... red line never felt so good!

But I did not try the launch control yet, but will after my first oil change at 1500 miles.

Get a scotch guard 3M clear bra, I plan on doing so next week.
