I have seen three other 135is' at dealers but have yet to see one on the road. Interestingly enough I have seen 4 1M Coupes since I picked mine up less than a month ago.

I think he is referring to the "M Sport Edition" specifically, which they only started offering a couple months ago. (when we originally ordered our car in March, the package was not offered, but I was able to change our order later when the package was released.) These cars are built the same cosmetically as the US "is" models, so they show up in the VIN trackers as being built with the same option codes.

My Canadian "M Sport Edition" The only difference cosmetically is the missing "is" badge. Although, ours comes with Blackline LCI's, which I don't believe the 'is" has. Was even able to order it with the "exclusive" black leather with blue stitching.

You may have to do that meet in Silver Spring, Maryland to go see the elusive Vermillion Red one...with taupe interior! Bleh!

Shocking someone returned it with under 800 miles.

Wish ours came with the blacklines, but alas, the IS doesn't have blacklines. Cosmetically though, yours also have the black chrome tipped exhaust (as opposed to the long chrome bmw performance exhaust tips).

I guess so. The Cdn "MSport Special Edition" is only cosmetically like the US 135is. It is not the same mechanically as the Cdn car is the regular N55 motor rated at 300/300. You would have to add PPK1 and PE to make it same as the US 135is. Which, you can do to any 135i with MSport option (as opposed to the "MSport Special", which, as you say, has only been available for a few months in Cdn.

BTW, nice looking car.

Jett/M-sport owners,

Do the 135i Msports have VINs that start with something other than WBAUC9C5% or WBAUN7C5% (for the verts)?

Yep the VINs I am using are WBAUC9C5%DV% and WBAUN7C5%DV%

If you look at these two post it may help with my assumptions regarding the 135i M-Sport. Perhaps I should refer to it as "The Cdn "MSport Special Edition" " like tucco44 does

There were a couple of forum members up in Canada who just got theirs in the last couple of months as it's a new model. See below:

I have yet to see a 135is on the road. I have seen 3 or 4 1Ms, and plenty of 335is coupes.

I don't even see that many 135i coupes on the road - mostly all 128i.

Hey hey hey, don't sell us short here, we have the PPK2 on the IS, so all those fancy mechanical upgrades as well. =P

Not trying to sell you short, as I think the 135is is a great package; BUT either you are mistaken or BMW NA website is wrong as it quotes 320hp/317 tq for the 135is. That is PPK1, not PPK2 which adds the oil cooler and some more.

My understanding is the 135is is PPK1, please point in the direction of where that is not correct..??

Just giving you a hard time, but it does in fact have the PPK2 with the extra radiator, etc. etc.

Let me see if I can attach the press release, but here's the quote: "Both models are equipped with BMW’s award winning TwinPower Turbo 3.0-liter inline-6 engine (N55) featuring Valvetronic throttle-less intake technology, direct injection and a single twin-scroll turbocharger. For the 135is, the engine has been tuned to increase peak horsepower to 320 hp (+20 hp increase) and 317 lb-ft of torque (+17 lb.ft) while maintaining the same emissions level and MPG ratings of the 135i. A Performance exhaust system complements the increased engine performance and provides a sporty exhaust tone. The engine cooling system has been upgraded to match the additional performance output by adding a larger, and more powerful radiator fan and an auxiliary radiator. "

Many of the 135is people have also taken pictures showing the auxiliary radiator installed.

OK, I see where I was confused. PPK1 and PPK2 have the same hp and tq ratings at 320/317, BUT PPK2 includes the oil cooler and other bits to enhance the perf level and harder use (ie track). I was mistakenly under the impression that PPK2 had a higher hp and tq rating over PPK1. I did the checking now, and see what you are saying.

In any event, the 135is is a very cool package, and I wish we could have got it in Canada. I may just add the PE and PPK1 to mine, but likely not this year.

the PPK2 comes with an additional WATER cooler, not oil. It is a tiny rad that ties into the stock rad, it also comes with a higher wattage rad fan, same one as the 1M. Just picking nits.

The Canadian cars, and the US "is" all leave Germany built the same way, then the exhaust and ppk are added once it arrives on US soil.

Guess you could tell them apart by VIN by checking for the code for the Blacklines?!?

I believe the 9th digit is a check sum of the other digits in the VIN

MightyMouseTech, help me out with "blacklines". It would be great to find something in the VIN that distinguishes the Canadian cars from the US cars other than the port of entry.

Thanks

Here is my Convertible count of cars having the P7MFA EDITION SPORT Sports Edition VIN code.
Of the 1,118 VINs I checked from May 25, 2012 to July 7, 2013 I found 214 with the Sports Edition Code. Once again a very small portion of these are the Canadian 135i M-Sport as introduced in April of 2013 and discussed here
http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=809521

Unlike the coupe VIN these all appeared to be in the VM##### range
for example WBAUN7C56DVM27935

It has been done before though. Last fall, a few of us local 1er owners met up for a mountain drive. One of the guys had recently bought a used 2010 135 that was badged as an "is", with the dealer also claiming it was an "is".

My guess is the 1M will fit that category, but probably not for other 135 and 128 models.

Here are two 135i VINs side by side with the options for the 135is in yellow.
The other color is the option that includes the oil cooler.

the source is http://www.rubmw.ru/vincode/eng/

1M or not, It's still a fun ride

This should be the same oil cooler that is included in the sport package and M sport package for the 135.
