I don't know for sure. I don't have exact knowledge of everything there nor will I ever claim so haha, but I would think that ambient air temp would have an effect on cooling. I mean generally the hotter the air is the less thermal capacity it should have and therefore a less ability to absorb the heat of the rotors....

Those are my random thoughts about it lol

My rotors on the e46 M3 exceeded 1000F. Race pads don;t even get "cookin" until 500F. It's very hard to measure. You need to pull into pit lane and have a person to check them immediately. Do it a few times and average the results. It has to measured in the exact same spot or it can vary greatly.

everything is relative. whether you measure the temps right away or 5 min later has no impact on your fact finding experiment. if this thing works you will see a difference in temp no matter how fast you measure the temp. max temps or elapsed time will not be a factor. variation in temps is a factor and it doesn't have to be extremes to answer your question. my .02

Counterpoint: The pulling would be another good way to see if it's working.

Realistically though, having had one side on the backing plates and one side with friction material on a pad set, the pulling would be manageable and progressive. I wouldn't worry about it at all.

I agree.. But its still me and my DD we are talking about...LOL something about small run off area and armco that doesnt sit well in my head.....

but as i said it wont be that bad..

on another thought, Ill have to check my next events schedule to see how much time i have between runs... i could do one session with none, then the next with both on.... This would be good data.. except taking that stuff apart ( removing rotor) its all gonna be smoking hot.

Is there any updates to the brake cooling scoop? Maybe instead of doing this in a DIYish approach. We should try to pull in some mod company and get them to design, do some simulations to maximize the airflow, and mass produce these things already...

^ already tracked with the splash shield mod. It def worked and kept the temps relatively lower. Just keep it simple is my advise

Just not very comfortable that it exposes the the brake disc and also not really wanna cut up my own car...

Is exposing the brake discs not a concern?

Ideally I can run the same config on or off the track. I don't really change brake padss for each track day.

Exposing the disc shouldn't be too big a concern as long as your not driving off road too much haha.
