I have some 3D printers and need a place to find 1 Series parts
Hi all....I have posted here once before on this but never got enough time to do anything on this topic...now I have some time!
I run a 3D printing company and I want to make some cool things for my 2013 1-Series. Someone earlier suggested printing a new surround enclosure for the car ignition button that is both 1) not shiny and 2) says something like "Last Year of the One"..... Anyone have good ideas I should do? The other issue is, that unless there are CAD models of the part in question, I would either need to disassemble my car, or find a local place that would have any part I wanted to modify. Do places like aftermarket car repair shops have parts like that? Or do I go in to the BMW service center and ask them if I can take some measurements of some spare parts? Thanks! |

I think it would be awesome if you could make different mounts/accesories which fit into the additional cup holder for those who have iDrive. Phone mounts, cobb holder, clip/hook for grocery bags/helmet, larger cup holder, etc.

Thats awesome to make a ignition button surround. MrMutaku made some for the 1m guys a while back.
Technically your car is the last year of the e82 but the 1 series does cary on. I love your ideas! |

Good idea! I don't have an iDrive car, so it would be harder for me to get any sort of template to work on (even though I have no idea why the second cup holder in my car is complete non-usable with the armrest down, but that is another story

I'd kill for a start button bezel with my 135is production number on it.

What about a nicely designed mount that fits in the CD tray?

Just take yours out and scan it. That way you don't have to go talk to a dealer and don't have to pay for anything. I'd be willing to purchase one. |

I have a couple of professional 3D scanners.....but for something like this, it is better to hand model the ring since it is more of a mechanical shape. If I were creating custom floormats or something like that, I would use the scanner since it is more of an organic shape.
