Taller rear tires- 128i winter setup
Hello 1ers,
I am running a square 225/45/17 setup with dunlop wintersport m3 rfts. I got a flat tire driving back from florida on the i75, I would love to replace all four to non-rfts but the budget doesn't permit that at this moment. I found an excellent deal on a pair of 235/45/17, my question is: would it be dangerous to run these slightly taller tires (235/45/17) on the rear with the 225/45/17's on the front? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks very much. |

The general guideline on tires are that they should be within 2% of each other...this works out to a bit over 4%. This means your speedometer/odometer, and warranty length will differ since it will not be the same. Also, the ABS system will see the difference in rotation rates, and depending on the type of TPMS you have, may think you have a flat or low tire.
IOW, IF there's enough clearance, it may fit, but it is probably not a great idea. |
