Post a video of your noise and we will tell you if its normal or not.
ok, so here is a video. it is the best I could make sound quality wise with my Iphone, hopefully you will hear the difference with clutch pressed and depressed and will be able to confirm to me if it is a normal DMF sound or not... also noticed that if I slightly raise the rpm (100-150) more then idle, the sound dissapears...

I would get it checked out at the dealer for peace of mind. My car makes that noise too, as did my 3 series before it. Neither car did it noticeably until they had covered over 25,000 miles.

I think it's a pretty common thing with BMW manual transmissions. I remember reading some years back about this noise (input shaft bearings?) being made worse by adding a lightened flywheel, and people were blending different weights of transmission fluid to quieten it down a bit.

I totally get where you're coming from though, you would think from the noise that something is loose.

I must have missed this thread, posted almost the same thing when I noticed the noise: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showt...php?p=15959567

Your video sounds just like mine and it definitely has not done it since new (or rather since I bought it with 4k miles on it). Now has 42k.

Well sound like you are in the same boat

My car is still under warranty. I will try to find a moment to pass by the dealership.

Btw I do remember now that my car was already doing this noise when it had approximately 25000km but I always thought that it has some plastic cover loose underneath the car... so like Dacelone says maybe it is normal

ok so here a little update:

I brought the car to the dealer for service and made them listen to the sound from the tranny. They told me that the sound was absolutely normal and made me listen to another 1series with only 2000km on its counter. They've emptied transmission oil to verify if there was any particules, nothing was found. So I got myself a free tranmission oil change.

Gives you a piece of mind. Glad it wasn't anything serious.
