Texas Mile?
http://www.texasmile.net/about.php
Anybody ever competed? I'd kinda like to take my 1'er out and see what she'd do. Mods currently are: JB4 DCI BMS Speed Delimiter and Berk Race Axleback and AR Downpipes are coming in the next week or two. Realistically what speeds are likely possible? I'd probably look at getting this stuff before running: Front splitter Some lowering springs to get the car lower Water Meth Rear diffuser Any other suggestions or anybody else interested in joining? I know 155 is easy to hit in my car so I feel like it would be a fun time.

I looked at the results from last year. Looks like the fastest bimmer was a M5 at 170.4 mph. I found the second fastest interesting because it is a 128i convertible (like mine at least superficially) at 160.5 mph. I'd like to know what mods he has! There were also a couple in the 150mph to 160mph range.
You'd need higher speed rated tires and the speed limiter changed accordingly to exceed the 150-160 mph range. Regardless of your capability the electronic nanny will stop you before your tires fail. Jim

Wow 160 in a 128 vert! That's insane. Wonder if the top was down! LOL
I have the BMS speed delimiter waiting to install here already. And the speed rating on my Hankooks V12 Evos is 186mph. I'm close to 400whp with E85 and would likely be 430-440whp with Water meth so i guess it comes down to how much drag my car produces at those speeds. I noticed the drag coefficient on our cars is .32 and our cars having a 22.6 sq. ft. of frontal area.

Rear diffuser is pointless other than for looks...not gonna help with speed at all. Just make sure your wheels have a good balance done on them and have fun.

Good to know, I wasn't seeing any aggressive 1 series rear diffusers anyways. Thanks. Think the front splitter is necessary?

Unless you're looking at doing a big custom one they're all really only for looks...non of the ones people really run on the street are gonna do anything that's gonna make a big difference. Just make sure your car's running right, have good tires on there and some good brake pads on there and have fun. Without changing the suspension though it's not recommended you go above the 155 limiter. Very soft and floaty...

Talked to one guy who has done it before, said take off the mirrors if possible and take out the blue tape and go to town on all the edges and funky angles. LOL

the blue tape thing is a bit overkill but sitting as low as possible will help a lot. I am expecting to see you hitting 165. like to know more about this 128 vert hitting 160. that is pretty amazing.
btw don't forget to video your run

Another limitation could be gearing. Have you calculated what speed you will be at redline in top gear? If you have enough power to push through the wind, and tires that can take the speed, and the electronic nanny at bay, then gearing could be your next limitation. I got 191 mph for a 135 with a 6 speed manual at 7000 rpm in 6th. I just ratioed it based upon some data from a C&D fact sheet on a 2008 135. It seems like your tires and gearing will take you to about the same point. That would put you ~20mph faster than the fastest bimmer last year.
The fastest car went ~240. That had to mean a significant change in final gear ratio. Jim

Wow thats pretty fast. Yeah i figured somewhere around 190 was where gearing was limited. I'd be shooting probably 170 as my goal, and would be happy with 165.

I KNOW this is an old thread, but I would like to see if in 3 years time there is anyone else who has done this event. Also I noticed a 2007 335i in the 200mph club as of 2014. Anyone know the story on that? Still an N54 or some type of engine swap?

I know nothing about that car, but that being said 700 HP+ N54s are a thing now. So I wouldnt be terribly surprised to see a 200mph 335.

I've been to the TX Mile twice now, let me just say, the magic 200mph is very very difficult to reach. so many will hit the 190s, but very few break 200. but man it's an awesome sight when they do.
this was me btw TX Mile 2013: not impressive I know, but when I went 2 other tuned Bimmer went, both hit the 155 governor

Also does JB4 with BMS back end flash remove the limiter or is that a whole separate deal? I have zero interest in trying this anywhere other than a track (I need to keep my CDL!) I am just genuinely curious

Thats a good question. All the tuned 1ers Ive seen, Ive never seen anyone yet with a governor removed. I'd be curious what Id do now. I had 289hp/314tq then. Now I have 314hp/455tq.
I think the long pull in 4th gear does something to my intercooler though, I run it at high speed once and it went into limp mode and gave me an error code. My SA said it may have a leak.. But i've only had that happen once during a really long 4th gear pull at 20+psi. And yes, it was way fun. Especially seeing the Ford GT break the record at over 270mph!!!
