What makes this differ from the manual? Is it just holes for the paddles? Would love to have this.

Yup just holes for paddle in the back. Quite few people using this on manual as when mounted can't see it

Always been worried about the alcantara. Doesn't seem like it would hold up well from wear spots. My shifter only took a couple months and it had wear spots. Looks great and probably feels awesome.

Yup most people drive with gloves on
Some proper clean and care for will take care the problem but you are right leather seam like more reliable
