Comfort Access

My car came with CA otherwise I would never have gotten it. My problem is that I live in a very rural area where I leave my car keys in the car. Been doing this for the past 20 years or so. I am getting conflicting opinions about leaving my keys in the car. The question is by leaving the keys in the car will I shorten the battery life? My SA says as long as the electronics are off nothing will happen to the battery. I question that as I thought the electronics sense the key which enables the CA to work. Any thoughts on this subject as I am tired of bringing my car keys in and then getting to the car and having to go back in the house because I forgot the keys where inside.
P.S. If you read Mike Miller his experience is people shorten the battery life by leaving the keys in the car or close to the car.

I'm in SoCal... and I wouldn't dare leave the doors unlocked, let alone leave the keys inside.

Yes, I have heard that if the car can sense the key nearby, it never goes to 'sleep' completely. Hence shortened battery life.

What about your house key, do you not carry them around either and not lock your house?

When you go into town for groceries or whatever do you still leave your keys in the car?

Combo lock on door, makes it easy as there is no need to have keys

yes it WILL shorten the life of the battery. likely your CA module wll never power down everything while the keys are in the area. After all that is what CA is for. I wonder if you can have the module either uninstalled or deactivated. That is something i would investigate.

Agreed, I was thinking the same. I really do not find any use for the system as how hard is it to push a button on the key?

the batteries are not expensive, they are standard issue. So what if they last a few months shorter. If your car ever did get stolen - then how important is a $2 battery?

Wow a lot of replies I have CA as well and seriously the fob isn't that big or weigh that much. If you are worried about wasting your battery, why don't you leave your key under a rock 5 feet away from your car. Or you could hang it by your house door.

I am talking about the car battery, if that was only two dollars we would not be having this conversation. LOL

Just keep the fob next to your wallet, hopefully you don't keep that in your car. When u leave the house, put both in your pocket and you will never have to worry about your locks/ignition.

If you have keys, then you do not have comfort access, nor a BMW...
You do have keys though, your key fob needs to be with you so in reality it's a key that functions a bit differently then a standard one.
