One of the only reasons the N55 is > the N54. Less turbos to break.

has anyone been quoted recently a price to replace both including labor? (people out of warranty)

Wastegates only. If your turbo bearing fails and your wastegates are fine, I don't think it's covered.

ah so if you hear the dreaded wastegate rattle then its time for turbos? what are symptoms of turbo bearing failure? and what noise are you listening for when the wastegates rattle some times i hear a rattle when i release the clutch on my 135 while slowly driving but i think that is due to the dual mass flywheel

That rattle is from the FW/clutch engagement.

People equate wastegate rattle to coins in a can when you rev up to ~2500rpm and let it back down to idle naturally. Youtube has videos of it for reference.

Bearing failure doesnt happen often, but when it does, it usually results in lots of oil in your downpipes/exhaust. Not exactly sure on the noises it makes, but its not good.

You guys are so lucky.. In Australia, you get a three years of factory warranty. And whatever extended warranty you buy on top. After that, you're on your own.

FBO and no intention of "going back to stock" for warranty. My warranty is gone but I'm curious about labor myself. The turbos are relatively affordable from online sites like Tischer ($633 ea.), but not something I'd want to install myself in the driveway. May well go to RB or Vargas when the day comes, but would expect comparable labor.

I'm curious as to how much labor would be as well.

I would guess 8-12 hours of labor to replace both turbos. My 1 has 78,000 miles and has the wastegate rattle since a long time, my stock turbo still running fine with no problem.

I think your car is still good for the coverage for the extended wastegate warranty.BMW extended the warranty on the wastegate for 8 years/82K miles. BMW will change the wastegate under warranty plus the Turbos as the wastegate is integrated to the Turbos as a one piece part.

From what I understand, the wastegate rattle is annoying but it won't hurt the turbo. This is why I don't bother to take it in for warranty repari, and besides I got DP and do not want to uninstall and install the DP again.
