Green Hell - Sabine - M5

Didn't think the plan would come off but we finally got to the UK, rode on the Eurostar at , wait for it, 297km/h. I brought a Tom Tom along for the ride and the numbers were amazing.

Anyway we eventually got to Frankfurt picked up a nice new 911 Carerra and had a nice run on the auto bahn to Nurburg. Stayed at the Dorint hotel, in a room on the pit straight of the F1 track. Next morning went to the BMW Motorsport site at the Ring entry and found that Sabine was our nominated "driver". F%$@*ing WOW!

Now I say that for a number of reasons, the shock that Sabine WAS the driver, how hard she punts an M5 (and how hard they can go), the snow, the poor bloke on the race bike with us right up his ars3 (~2 meters away) and Sabine was screaming at him to (insert German accent) "Get out of the way" whilst driving one handed at 170k's through some sweepers. Did I mention the snow....

Lap completed, heart rate at max, and a bit of sweat on the palms, I got a hug and kisses and a couple of photos with her before scouring the car park and eye balling some hot machinery.

Visited Rome for a few days, my god I can't believe those Vespas!!!!!

I am writing this whilst here in Venice, crossing my fingers that the AVIS Italy on line booking worked so we can leave in the morning for Monte Carlo OR better still they re open the local airport as well as Nice.

Anyways, I will post some pics when I get a chance and if I ever get home again.

Let me get this straight: You drove a 911 to the Ring and then let Sabine drive you around the track in her car?

He probably rented the 911 from SIXT, a German rental car company. 500 euros per day plus km charges. $$$

The 'Ring Taxi is a rental service at the 'Ring. BMW runs 10 special M5's with Ring Taxi logos. Each M5 (e60) can only do a limited number of laps - then BMW must check the cars for saftey reasons.

You pay for a driver to take you around the track for five laps. I think it costs around 180 euros(its been awhile since I was there). Not bad since a four lap ticket at the Ring(now) will set you back 80 euros. One lap costs you 23 euros.

Btw... One Lap = 22 Kms, and its between 160 to 190 turns depending on who you talk too.

Thanks for the info.
Having visited Nurburgring and driven around the track myself I understand how things work.
I was just thinking about the OP having a Porsche 911 and ring at his disposal and not fully realizing the opportunity....

How did you manage to get tickets? I swear everytime I log onto the Ring Taxi site, there are never tix available. I'm going to Germany in September (provided the volcanic ash has cleared by then!) and would dearly love to do the Ring taxi but can't seem to secure a ticket. ARGH! Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Well... it has been five years since my last time there at the 'Ring. But... the last time I was there.... the 'Ring vending machines were down(that you get your lap ticket from) and there was a guy in the little house next to those machines (this was before that 'Ring Cafe was finished being built)... The guy said you jus tell him you want a 'Ring Taxi and he will call them over. Some Japanese tourists were ordering a 'Ring Taxi while I was there waiting.

I had no idea about the new procedures to get a 'Ring Taxi now. Seems a little bit difficult the way you described the process. I would try to call the track and ask them how to go about it. Sounds like you need to pay over your (German)bank account. Normally the only card places take for payment is an EC card(its like a debit card for europe). Credit cards still are not so popular over here. lol

Good Luck,
David

PS: I plan on going to the "ring in a few weeks. I will be sure to ask how it works for the Taxi service.

Did you check here for the "Ring Taxi?

http://bmw-motorsport.com/ms/en/fasc...ket_limit.html

A lap in the BMW Ring-Taxi costs €195. Up to three persons can join for this ride. The rides are offered from March to November. In the “Book your ride” section of this website, you can select your individual favourite date. We recommend booking your ride right after receiving your ticket.

BMW Ring-Taxi Team

Should you still have any questions or suggestions regarding the BMW Ring-Taxi, our team is there for you Monday to Friday, from 10:00 to 12:00hrs CEST (09:00 to 11:00hrs BST).

also you can look here for track dates that are open to the public. Because the track is first used my the car companies durring the work days. And some days they have driving schools using the "big" track. That is why on some dates the public dates are after hours, but before sunset.

+1

I hired a 911 thru AVIS in '06 and specifically asked if I'd be covered insurance wise. After being told yes I did about 6 laps in it. Would have done more but needed to get back to Frankfurt for a flight.

My visit and car for 24hrs:

Yes, as you'll see from your link, the ticket allocation has reached its limit. This is the normal response I get every time I check the website
