Well crap..just crap

So the unthinkable happened to me Tues. I was north bound on A62 coming from landsthul and just at the A6 interchange I was getting into the left lane passing a German stlye dump truck and wham all this shyt comes flying all over my car. He was moving to the right into the turn lane for A6 Mannheim, which didn't allow me to get a license plate, and I was passing him. It was like someone thru a bucket of dirt with gravel all over the front of my car. Something big hit the right front corner busting all of the duct work , scarring the bumper etc. Been dealing with USAA, so far so good, and went to an autorepair place recommended by Hans of M-Flight and Matt of PCS. The estamate is 1,900 euro to fix all the chips etc in the paint, front bumper-hood and tips of the fenders, and I'm waiting and estimate for a new windshield. Man this sucks plus I have an appiontment to ship it through the PCS home shipping on the 29th....well at least she may go home with a fresh new kisser and eyes. The pix are at home. I'll keep u all posted and probably have a good place to recommend for body work when this is all through.

New windshield through BMW will cost you about 1,000 euro. I know cause I am in the market as well. If you find a better local deal, let me know.

Windshield cost IS 1,000 euros. I have had two so far. BUT... it is also covered under your comprehensive insurance! In most cases zero or a very low deductible. As long as you only claim one windshield per year... it can not count against your driving record.

FDM68 that sucks about your car.

USAA is screwing me on my deductible. Main reason it's not replaced yet.

Fortunately the windshield gets in as part of the whole claim so one deductible.

Sorry to hear about the incident with the Truck. I am constantly watching for those just in case that happens to one of my cars. I know how upset I would be and I would end up in jail if they caught me after I dealt with the driver. I know in the states I had a truck in front of me and some rocks came out of his vehicle and hit my windshield about a week after picking up my vehicle from the dealership. I pulled beside the guy and told him to pull over and he did. I showed him what happened and he said he saw it when it happened. We spoke for a while on the side of the highway and he gave me his insurance info. and phone number and stuff from the company he was a driver for. I called the company and they told me to get a estimate for the damage and I told them what it was going to be and they told me to come by their office and had a check printed out for me. The guy driving the truck was there and he apologized to me again and they took me out for dinner and the owner gave me $250 for my deductible and told me to have them charge it to his insurance. The estimate was for $1184. and some change, they wrote the check out to me so I made over $1400 dollars. The damage was also to my front end had some small chips in the grill area. To bad it doesn't happen that way all the time. They were just good people. Sorry for the long tail.

So far so good. I was buy the shop yesterday to drop off and sign some paperwork and the shop already had the bumper off and sanded down along with the front of the hood. I showed the repair shop some things I had discovered after the first estimate, such as a few chips in the roof just above the windshield, and they said no prob plus they'll do the windshield replacement so it turned out to be one stop repair. Just glad it wasn't worse, if whatever hit my bumper hit the windshield it would have been lights out. I'm sure the truck driver had no clue what happened.

Not sure that the clear bra would have helped this one, this crap would have dinged a tank, but I think I am going to seriously consider it for normal day to day.

Thats a correct point in this unique situation but without cb i was constantly driving with that sort of "i know something is going to hit me in the face" feeling, you know squinting and bracing for impact....now i drive with less stress knowing minor things wont cause thousands of dollars in repairs, especially when i move to Texas...so it'll help our investment.

Finally got her back and I shyt you not it looks brand new. I'd beg to say the paint job is better than the one applied by BMW. I'd say a good 2/3rds had been re-done/blended in. Couldn't be happier. Anyone needing an good place for auto body repairs I have the place.
