WAGNER tuning new FMIC received and installed

Getting near the end of the rope for bolt on power mods, and this was my final answer: the WAGNER tuning EVO intercooler. The company shipped it out from Germany very well packaged via UPS expedited.

My readings pointed to the ETS and the Wagner as candidates. Harold @ HP Autowerks gave the best price for the ETS so if anyone is going with that FMIC contact him! But this is what won it for me: the Wagner 1M intercooler has a step design that results in about 85% greater surface than stock IC, it does not require any trimming, cutting and is total plug and play using all factory mounting points without any bumper removal. The Wagner unit was made in Germany and is bar and plate in design. I found out there are two designs out there, bar and plate vs tube and fin (the latter being more popular in Europe, the former more popular in NA). This is where I got my intercooler from:

http://wagner-tuning.de/EN/products/...ntercooler.php

Started work with my buddy Sam @ 2300. Ramped the car up and there we were:

I'm not good at writing DYI's but essentially you remove the plastic undertray with ten billion bolts (that alone takes time!), then you loosen two factory bolts from under the OEM intercooler, loosen two hose clips and then wiggle the OEM intercooler down. There is an additional plastic piece that needs to be removed on the passenger side top before you can install the Wagner FMIC in but after that is done, it is all smooth sailing! The Wagner sends you a set of extended bolt, plastic spacer and nut you have to use to mount. Replace under tray and voila, all done.

Pics comparison of the Wagner vs OEM

Took 3 hours to do the 1M (more than half of that was sheer dumbness like losing a black under tray screw and looking for it on my black garage floors! ). After finishing the 1M we got to work on Hackulo's E92 335 and we finished it up under 1hr. too tired to drive the car last night after install and my commute to work is too short to really comment on its gains over the stock FMIC but will update this again at a later time.

Wagner actually makes two kits. One for the 135i and one for the 1M - although the sizes listed by Wagner are the same. The 1M unit is 30 euros more than the 135i unit.

135i version Size 520 x 210 x130, 11.752cm³ Volume (OEM stock FMIC 510x130x110mm, 7293cm³ Volumen)

Hi Einser, I have a couple of questions for you if you have the time to answer them for me.

Can you confirm that there is definitely no cutting required when fitting this intercooler?

How many inches does the Wagner step section cover the flow to the radiator?

Is the whole of the Wagner face directly open to the gap in the front bumper or is some behind the bumper at the top and the bottom of the face?

Also, are the dimensions that Dack has posted above just the dimensions of the OEM and Wagner cores or do they include the end tanks? If you could measure your OEM that would be an added bonus, not necessary though.

Many thanks in advance for taking the time to answer this for me.

i'm sorry the only answer i can provide you with is YES the FMIC has zero cutting zero trimming, it fits perfectly. i didnt take any measurements before i put it up but email Wagner and i am sure they will be able to send you all the info. The email is info@wagner-tuning.de. They are in DE but emails are very fast and very friendly!!!!

The IC looks great! I'm also in the market so I'll definitely consider this unit.

Is the Wagner bar and plate construction? I read another post where the Helix guys were ragging on Wagner for copying their design concept and saying the construction was inferior tube and fin.

the 1M FMIC from Wagner has both options: bar and plate or tube and fin. the former seems to be popular in the states and the latter more popular in Europe. from what I understood tube and fin lighter but bar and plate has better internals in any case I went with bar and plate

Just to clarify I didnt mean the product... lets be clear that FMIC is NOT made in China.

I dont want casual readers to not realize the China stuff is a joke about a person we know.

Looks like a good alternative to the no cutting ETS intercooler. Would be great to get a third person party to do a comparison between em with actual data/numbers.
