i vs xi

I there a significant difference in how, let's say, a 335i performs / handles vs a 335xi?.... a difference a relative novice could observe? If not, can you see a 135xi in the future?

Sure. If the 1-series becomes super popular and if the BMW Marketing people determine that there is a significant market for a 128xi and/or 135xi in addition to the other 1-series models and if they can make a successful business case for such an offering to the BMW finance and/or executive committee and/or BoD, then I suspect you may see that kind of offering.

My best guess would be that they wouldn't do it in this E82 cycle, and would wait for the new body style to make a major change like that. 1er's replacement is likely in 1012.

well, if your talking RWD and AWD. The AWD is more noob proof, aka easier to correct if you lose control. JUst point in the right direction and floor the gas.

Repost.

Don't hold your breath, unless you count the upcoming X1.

Otherwise adding X-Drive doesn't fit the market that the 1er coupe is designed for.

I've never driven them, but as I recall from reading test reports, the 328i beats the A4 and the 328xi typically gets beaten by the Audi.

The xi models will neccesarily have more weight in the nose, as well as higher overall weight (+about 150 lbs.) there fore they'd have more understeer so I'd buess they'd handle a little less sweetly and the steering wouldn't be as nice with drive going thru the fronts.

That said I'd guess that half the new 3ers I see in New Hampshire are xi models so I'd say there's a good chance we'll see xi Oners.

I switched from an A4 Avant Quattro to a RWD 528iA and yes I do drive it in the winter (see my Avatar).

I remember reading recently that BMW confirmed there will be no xi/AWD version of the 1-series. Can anyone else back me up on this?

You read right. No need to back this up.
They will never put it on the current 1er model here in the states.

Want x-drive you'll have to wait for the X1 SAV...:roundel:
