New Review- Convertible

Go ahead. Take one look at it and jump to the usual conclusion. Yeah, sure, it's a four-seat drop-top with the coveted blue-and-white roundels at each end, but don't assume it's only good for running between cheerleading practice and the mall. BMW's new 1-series convertible is a seriously good driver's car that looks even better in the metal than the coupe on which it's based. And Godammit, it's not a chick car!

Thanks Bryan! I like the comments on the power delivery of the 125i and the road holding abilities. We haven't had any 128i reviews yet, but this is a close second.

Let me tell you, that girl can drive. She happened to pick me up at the airport, and she must have been an honor student in her German Driver's Ed class.

The 128i is unique to North America. There is a Stateside press event in the middle of February that will include 128i coupes and convertibles, so look for a review on those cars shortly thereafter. No 135i convertible until May.:iono:

Bryan, thanks for the review. You touched on the steering in your online review. Can you provide some more insight into how it felt compared to, say, a 3 series with hydraulic steering. Many people seem to be concerned with the electric vs. hydraulic steering (the latter to be fitted on the 135 but not the 128) and as a prospective buyer of the 128 vert, I'd appreciate any insights you may have. Thanks.

I think most people are blowing the steering thing way out of proportion. The 125i that I drove had the same electric steering as the 128i we'll get here. It felt natural and was very responsive. I've experienced a slight delay in response from other BMWs with the active steering system (new X5 and updated 5 Series), but not this one.

Thanks for the hands-on objective feedback. :w00t:
