This is why you need an LSD!
Pretty good vid from M Gmbh, even if you do not understand german you will get the point!
The red M6 is the one without any locking diff. And this is also why you cannot get this kind of diff. from BMW on the 135i, it is not an M-car

3:50 is a great comparison
but i cant think when i will be stuck on a hill with that elevation and a moving ramp going the other way lol if you plan to off road then i would def. see the argument but for city driving and the ocasionally ski trip on plowed roads it will be fine

The reviews of the car so far have actual praised how well the eDiff works. You need to see the 135i vids of the car laying two nice long black patches.
Let's be frank, if the 135i had a LSD, why would anyone buy the new M3?

The hill with the moving ramp simulates a very slippery underground.
I have read a belgian review where they are absolutely not that happy about the e-diff... But if Advevo says it is not that bad I would rather trust him on this matter... but is is definately not a substitute for a real LSD! I am planning on buying a 135i in 2 max. 3 years from now, but I will upgrade the diff. for sure!

Yea, I will get an aftermarket or bmw performance diff later but I don't have an immediate need for it.

It is especially the cornering which makes all the difference when having a locking diff.

The sliding hill test is interesting actually. When they did that test in comparing an evo and an STi - the STi made it while the Evo did not!
I too am really curious to see the grip with the e-diff!!! |

I think it will prove to work okay by simply not allowing the one wheel to turn. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

eDiff might not be the best for drifting (although you can do it, search youtube for "135i drift"), it's better than a fully open diff.
It's nice to know that you can still make it up a hill if one of your rear tires just happens to be on frictionless rollers!

If you are referring to the M3, then be advised that the sedan starts at $54k, and the coupe at $57k. It's still a hefty increase over the E46 M3, but not too bad considering the competition.
The RS4 started at $70k or so...
