Rubbing help on 18x8.5 + 35 Riva MX7's
got new set of wheels and tires put on Riva 18x8.5 + 35 all around
Front tires are 215/40/18 Rears are 245/35/18 So I did not pick these size and offsets the guy 1010tires.com did . they totally rub on the inside fender wells on all 4 wheels especially if I have 1 or 2 people in the car. I am kinda surprised as I thought the 135I's came with similar sized wheels and tires stock. The guy at 1010 said I need to lower the car and it will increase the camber thus cut out the rubbing .... I find this pretty hard to believe as im pretty sure the fronts rub directly at the very top of the fender wells on full compression . Any idea what I can do ? thanks tyler |

That sizing is not really ideal for your car. There are a few solutions to your problem, but none of them are really an easy fix. You can do fender work to help alleviate rubbing with your existing setup, you can add more camber (if you have camber plates and whatnot), or you can essentially get new wheels/tires.
Typically for you car, we recommend an 18x8.5 ET45, rather than ET35.

You're going to have to pull the front fender a bit (which basically equates to bending the fender outward. You may need to dremel the contact point between the front bumper and front quarter panel at the 2-o'clock position on the passenger side front.
You will most likely need to trim the inner fender liner on the rear. Rolling the fenders in the rear *may* suffice. Check for more contact once you ride on it a bit. I would expect some noise when you have multiple people regardless. You can run them, but your passengers will be asking you "what's wrong with your car" constantly every time they hear that noise. |

First, et35 in the REAR is a lot of poke. Most 1er's run et45-et62, effectively allowing the wheel to tuck under the rear arches. I run et35 in the front but that's with -3.1 camber (a lot). Second, 215/40/18 is a bit stretchy for an 8.5" wheel, but it's within the recommended sizing specs. Either way that's a big difference in tire sizes on a square setup. 225/40/18 with 245/35/18, or 235/40/18 square would be more appropriate, after changing your wheels to a higher offset (for example: Apex Arc-8's, 18x8.5" et45). Personally, I think you have some great looking wheels with the wrong tire and wheel sizes. If 1010 made the call, I'd leave it to them to fix the issue or allow you to return them. If they fight, tell them to get their head out of their arses. No good wheel shop should be informing you to adapt your suspension to the wheels that they recommended would fit. |

Solution is to spend $1500 on suspension and alignment, or to hack up fenders? No thanks...
Those wheels are absolutely wrong size and makes no sense to run staggered tires on a square setup. I say return the wheels and get proper wheel/tire fitments. If you want square go 18x8.5 et42-45 with 245 all around or 18x8/8.5 with offsets of mid40/50 and 215/245 or 225/255. |
