Does it make sense to install JB3 and ONLY JB3?

I have a leased 135i and I really don't want to install anything that I have to take off later (intake exhaust etc) and return to stock, except for the JB3 mod which is supposely an easy bolt-on and obviously gives the most gain. And that's probably all I needed (just a little extra woop for the very rare spirited driving).

So my question is , do you think it's worth it to go for JB3 only and leave everything else stock? Will stock intake/exhaust etc become significant bottleneck for the increased power? I understand that aftermaret intake/exhaust etc will likely give more gains paired with JB3, but how much are we looking at here?

P.S. With correct installation it won't trigger any codes right? And it should be non-detectable after it's taken off?

Probably get an intake. It's not as much a PITA as exhaust and or downpipes

JB3 can't go without a BT Scanner, be sure to pick one up.

You can safely run maps 1-5 with a JB3 only, maps 4-5 you should run at least 93 octane. Plug it in and enjoy.

Oh, and as the post above mentioned, get a BT scan tool...

Oh yes, it does trust me. I paired it with the BMS DCI and took off the rear section muffler and it screams. My tires set loose 1st 2nd and 3rd.

If you're leasing, I'd say a JB3 is an easy on/off mod. I really don't think intakes are worth the hassle on turbo cars.

I say don't bother with anything else but the JB3, it's going to give you the best bang for the buck. The intake/exhaust will be more for sound than performance unless you add downpipes to the mix.

Actually most customers do JB3 only, or maybe a JB3 and a BMS drop in filter. It's the easiest combo for install/removals and you pickup huge gains.

You're going to need an upgraded FMIC and downpipes. You'll get used to the JB3 and want more and the FMIC and downpipes are the only two other available options that are going to given you noticeable power, power the you acutally "feel". My .02.

If you go JB3 with NO other mods, set it, forget it, and enjoy! Map 3 is a beast compared to stock. If you have 93 octane in your state, you can run Map 5 for some extra power.

If you do the JB3 you will want the BMS tuning gauge as well. It is a neat tool. reads IAT, Boost, you can switch maps on the fly as well. The BT tool would be the only other must have.

Although I have one, it's a nuisance if you have to take it to the dealer. You'd be hard pressed to miss a stray cable coming out from the firewall to the ECU. Unless you're comfortable taking the JB3 out for warranty claims, I would not recommend getting a tuning gauge.

FWIW, I have NEVER set off a tuner detection code or tune-related code on my MSD81 with a JB3. Personally, if I had JUST a JB3 non-beta with no supporting mods, I might not even need the BT tool. With that being said, it's a GREAT diagnostic tool... but if you are going with a conservative map, it is not a necessity IMO.

No it is not just for reading codes though. It is great for logging, and the tune gauge and JB3 are not hard to take off before servicing. I know about both the products and they are easy to deal with.

If you are only doing one mod, it should be JB3.
Set it to map O for service.
Remove it when you turn in the car.
About $350.
A reflash is probably better, but you can't set them to map O for service.
Anyone driving your car at the dealer will notice the added power.
Goodbye warranty.

I have a leased 08 135i auto, and I run JB3 map 6 & 7 (on 93 oct obviously) all day, in temps up to 90 degrees with no problems and no codes at all. The only thing is that after hard driving, there are heat soak issues, but the JB3 will adjust and throttle back boost as to ensure there is no damage from overheating.

Get the JB3, you'll never regret it.
