Does it actually vary that much across different cars? Mine was approx $300 IIRC but it was a while ago when I paid it.

I have bog standard plates that came with the car though. If you want customs I believe the yearly fee skyrockets.
The rego is definitely an amount between $300-$400. I'll check when I get the chance. EDIT: Oh, it might be also important to note that my car is registered for 'business' and not 'private'.

Hummm... I do not recall paying $450 for this year. Anyway though, your question is answered. $306 for private use.

I actually called the RTA and questioned why my vert was $437, where the coupe is $306.. was told of the NEW F### tare weight sliding scale..The coupe falls in the 1155kg to 1504kg..Hence $306...The vert falls into 1505kg to 2504kg hence the verts private rego is $437..

Wait a minute....do you Eastern Staters get ripped extra each year because you have private plates?? Both my BMWs have private plates - one with my initials and one with Euro plates (with the wife's initials) - I only paid $60 for the initials and $500 for the Euros when I first got them.

Not always mate - we get screwed by the fact we have only one BMW dealership!

Best thing to do is just go here - http://prices.maa.nsw.gov.au/index.html - fill in the details and you'll get every insurer's prices compared
