OT:BMW vs Lexus service

I bought my wife a used Lexus RX330 last year (which we have been super impressed by). I booked it for a service today and when I booked it the lady asked if we wanted it picked up from our house or to drop it off. We chose pick up.

So the guy just arrived and I assumed they'd take the car and my wife would be without a car all day. But they dropped off an IS250 for her then took our car. All for the cost of...Nothing! I think BMW have a lot to learn about customer service.

Obviously this is all built into the cost somewhere but at least Lexus is smart about it. BMW always make such a big fkn deal about getting a loan car it really annoys me.

The service will probabaly cost me 2 grand now haha.

Lexus are known for their amazing service worldwide. It is why a lot of people buy them. When I was looking for a car I test drove the IS250 and the service was brilliant. They even have free car washes anytime you want to drop your car in.

BMW sell their cars on the badge, Lexus didn't have a badge so they needed a selling point, and they specifically chose to concentrate on service.

BMW and Mercedes have always provided that service to us. I prefer to take my car in for service though when I can. You are right in saying that spread out the cost over the entire cost of the service.

I know of at least one member on here who has his car picked up and given a loan car whenever he has a service done. And the dealership who does it is not even in the same city.

Brisbane BMW used to drop loan cars off to me despite it being a 1 hr drive away. The sales manager I knew there was fantastic, he has been long gone though. It used to be a case of what car I was interested in trying and if in stock he would drop it off to me.

Nowadays I just drop it in to westside as it takes me all of 10 mins. Long gone are the old days though of sales bending over backwards to keep customer loyalty. There are still the odd few though.

meanwhile the noise coming from my engine that sounds like the entire valvetrain is about to eat itself is described as 'normal'. Gee I love BMW.

Jesus...

When my tranny was replaced i was told by the repairers that the grinding noise coming from my forward driveshaft area was just the broken crossmember. I was adamant that it wasn't the issue, and asked them to check the box. They obviously didn't.

Trivett then took over the repairs, and they then diagnosed it as the sheared 2nd gear cog.

Yes lexus staff do pamper you every time i went past lexus at indooroopilly i drop in say hello and cakes and coffee full gym 12ft billiard table private lounge more softdrinks watch videos.
Yep not bad trouble was putting to much wait on from there cakes and coffee.
Bmw on the other hand is not as good but westside bmw staff are very good and you don't even ask for coffee they ask first.
Had a rattle in my lexus which they thought was coming from the steering wheel no permission from headquarters first they replaced the air bag still the rattle then they ordered a new sports steering wheel and fitted that nice new leather steering wheel.
But lexus cars are no where near bmw's in handling and ride.

This thread has me thinking - maybe time for my little cartoon car to go and replace with an isf. Only problem is what do I do about the missing pedal on the v8 toyota?

Yeh I had a look at carpoint today Banglemangle for an ISF. I have done some passenger laps in them at eastern creek and they are more than competent on the track. Can't imagine them being too far off the pace of an M3?

I reckon lexus has BMW beaten in lots of areas - build quality, road noise, standard equipment levels - and service. I really don't like the look of the ISF though - especially those fake vertical quad pipes. Performance/luxury wise though, for 100k for a used one it's hard to beat.

Agree with you absolutely. Alas, Japanese cars tend to be technically competant but lack soul / emotion.

That said, I got all emotional over pumps / lights / bulbs / exhausts / rattles / and now desire something that is comfortable, reliable and ugly - sounds like me really - lol

I'd take an ISF over an M3 sedan any day of the week... But I do hate the fake exhaust pipes.

Needles is an entertaining fellow :-)

Be that as it may, however - no word on my missing pedal. This is getting depressing. I may need to adopt a coyote!

I use the pickup service these days, save me two hours as the dealership is almost 30mins away. Don't have to pay and get a loaner, though I rarely use it as I am at work.
