Remove the headlight cover (pull the brackets left and right from it) and pull the wires out (4 at one ring). Now remove the old leds and insert the new ones (turn on the light before you do it, so you can see if its plugged in correctly).
Now get your hand "inside" the headlights and try to feel the holes for the leds, so you know where they are. Try to get the new leds into the holes, you could try it with two fingers with the LED between it... Thatīs it actually.. |

For Knob and others that may be interested. Some in the E9X forum just figured out how to enable the AEs as DRLs on a car originally equipped with halogen lights. In fact, the lights being used are the Depo P90s! It's unknown right now whether this will work on the 1-series, but since the 1-series and 3-series are so similar, we can hope!!

I know that I linked to a specific post, but if you read the posts in that thread regarding this coding change, there is strong belief that iDrive is not a requirement. The reason it's talked about at all in regards to the AE DRLs is because the early E9X cars didn't have the DRL option in the BC so the only way to alter the DRL behavior on those cars was either through a coding modification or through the iDrive system. And yes, this coding modification is basically setting the front parking light as the DRL and the Depo lights use the AEs as parking lights.

I can activate the daylight, DRL, or however you wanna call it, in my BC, but it just activates my halogen light .. "If someone wanted DRL to run as high beams, set drl_s to drl_h. Mine was drl_h by default." Thats how its propably right now.. |

Yes, "drl_h" uses the high beams as the DRLs, and "drl_s" uses the parking lights (i.e., AEs) as DRLs. For our cars with the BC DRL option, it's assumed that VERHALTEN_DRL_TFL is set to "drl_h" since the halogen cars use the high beams as DRLs. Again, no one has confirmed this on a 1-series, I'm just speculating that this same coding change may be available in the 1-series since the overwhelming majority of coding crosses between the two series.

I wouldn't think it would be hard to glue some insulating rubber and cut a small hole to squeeze the light through? Great looking lights by the way! HID and LED upgrade? |
