realoem and purchasing
Realoem gives you the part number and approximate pricing but how do you purchase it? Do you ask the dealer? Or is there a site online?
I'm looking for interior parts. |

There are HEAPS of places to order OEM items from online. All of them cheaper than anything local.
Try Tischer and bmminiparts for a start. Personally I like schmiedmann and would definitely use them again. Prices are among the best out there and shipping rates are alright too. Sometimes bmmini might have the part for cheaper but the shipping makes it more expensive. BUT Harlequin had an unpleasant experience with schmiedmann so yeah.. up to you. I've had multiple pleasant experiences lol. Otherwise there's also ECS Tuning, DDM Tuning and many more. What parts are you after? |

Yeah, both head/tail lights configurations are different from ours, so pretty much rules out buying from any vendors from US. Maybe I'll try sourcing from the UK but I imagine it's going to cost as much as my arms and legs together.

Are you guys sure about the US tail lights being different? I had my left tail light smashed in January and Trivett wanted over $500 to replace it. I looked up the part number on realoem (63217285641) and got it from unitedbmw for $140 (180 shipped).
Its exactly the same as the one that was smashed, it has an amber light and the same part number sticker on it. Realoem says that the LCI tail lights are the same for the Euro RHD 125/135 as they are for the LHD 128/135 e.g LCI Left #63217273427. Tischer has these for $145. |

I only say that cause I know that a lot of cars in the US have a red indicator and I purchased LCI E60 taillights and they had red indicators Returned them and purchased from HK with amber indicators. I'll check tischer for LCI taillights see what they can do. |

I went for a bit of a roadtrip across the US in october/november last year and saw both amber indicators and some cars with the whole brake light as an indicator. Maybe it is a state by state difference.
The car I hired from LA had amber rear indicators (i think). |

Can't believe it, BMW Aus having a cry because other BMW dealers are selling parts cheaper than they are, it's old news that we're being ripped off in Australia with everything, if they don't want to get competitive with their pricing people will get it elsewhere whether aftermarket or overseas OEM parts.

To be fair, we dont know how much BMW Australia can get the parts/cars for wholesale. This is all based on the assumption that Munich will supply the parts/cars etc. to BMW Australia for the same/similar price to BMW USA.

To be honest if this is true, do BMW really think they can stop us getting parts from overseas? I mean there's tonnes of vendors out there already and the numbers are growing as we speak....

Unfortunately the large proportion of BMW owners would not know about sourcing from oseas rather than local. Also the average owner would probably just pay the price because they are able to afford it. High dealer prices fits in perfectly with the notion that BMW = expensive.

There are ways around any "restrictions" any Australian retailer tries to put in place. You cannot stop people in Australia buying things from USA via the internet. You can just make it a little harder for people too lazy to work it out.
