And what if you actually use your car, rather than just look at it?

Shocking

Shouldn't BMW step up to correcting a blind spot of a security feature which renders said feature useless ,,, .

Putting it in a garage will just force them to use other means like breaking the door down and forcing you to hand over the original keys. Plus I dont want to build a garage or move to a house with a garage just for a car.

It's absolutely disgusting!

Someone's wrote a letter in this months performance BMW magazine and also there's an advert in the back of it, from a company saying how easy it is to steal them and they can sort the problem for X amount of money, if I can find the mag I will take a pic as tbh I can't rly remember, still shocked though that these owners aren't getting trackers on the car especially when it's a limited edition and highly stealable

fitting a tracker wont stop the car getting stolen, and the thieves would simply remove the tracker within a short time of it being stolen.

I personally wouldn't want my car back if it had been stolen.

Luckily the CCTV caught them, the Police now have it so fingers crossed.

Just really to let you all know how they did it. BMW have identified a 'black spot' in the car's alarm on the inside of the car. Apparently this is on the passenger side, but on the 1M it appears to be on the driver side.

They smashed a small area of the driver door glass near to the wing mirror, put their hand down to the ECU in the footwell (in the black spot) then plugged in a device that can then 're-program' ANY BMW keyfob with the Radio Frequency of the car they are stealing and make that key the car key.

One of them then got in the car, released the handbrake and three of them pushed it off the drive and down the road where I guess they started it and hopefully wrapped themselves around a tree and slowly killed them in a fireball.
Really sorry to here this, i worry about my 8k 1er getting stolen but i would be proper p!ssed off if i had a 1M stolen, its worrying your in my area of the world to & this is going on, i have moved the OBD port & are thinking of getting some stickers made up to warn thieves the OBD port has been removed.

There a big thead over on babybmw about the same thing, bmw need to do something before all are insurence goes even more sky high.

It just shouldnt be that easy to get in or even to re-program a key or even buy a new key let alone buying in bulk.

just shocking.

interesting perspective.

Just cleaned like hell and got a second car IN the garage and I feel like a full citizen again, as opposed to some mope with a bunch of junk in the garage while the car gets hailed on.

They're denying that they can do anything about and if they could that they are denying they would be liable.

How did you go about removing and relocating the OBD port?

Personally I'd rather not see a "how to" on relocating the ODB port - let's not reveal where it's moved to eh?

I don't think sharing how to relocate the OBD port is going to give a would-be thief any advantage. I can see how one might not want to share where they relocated the port, but even then I think the point is to make the new location much less accessible so that the thief would either set the alarm off in the process of looking for it or just abort the theft due to the amount of time it would take to find it.

Just been on the BMW LAND forum to see someone nearly had their 1M stolen this morning - http://www.bmwland.co.uk/forums/view...p?f=1&t=135599. Really is getting ridiculous now!

BMW needs to address this ASAP! i was just trying to convince my girlfriend to buy a BMW, but if BMW doesn't address this...I'm definitely going to talk her out of it. what's the point of buying a higher end car, if they are getting solen because of such an easy gadget?!

Every car has it's achilles heel. You realize that the only special tool you need to steal most any Japanese car is a simple flat blade screwdriver!

With the right tools and knowledge any car can be taken.
