Don't shoot the messenger.

But SupraMKV's insider has said the 6 cylinder version for Toyota is just north of 3,100 lbs.

Well, if that actually happens, it'll be all the more impressive how they managed to make the RC-F weigh 1000lbs more.

As a previous mkiv supra owner that has has only regretted selling this one car, i was looking forward to the new supra, especially after seeing the ft-1. But the production model is a little bit of a let down on the front facia. I may ultimately got the z4 route.

Toyota: No Supra for Detroit, SUV Lineup to Expand

If you were hoping to see the return of the Toyota Supra in January at the North American International Auto Show, you will be disappointed.

It’s too soon to unveil the much-anticipated sports car. Specifications are still being finalized and it’s not at production levels yet, said Jack Hollis, Toyota group vice president and general manager of the Toyota division in North America.

Even the name has not been pinned down. Supra is a candidate but not the only candidate. In fact, “there are other names that could be better,” Hollis told Motor Trend in an interview. Cressida? Celica? And there have been suggestions it could be badged Gazoo instead of Toyota, a nod to Toyota’s Gazoo Racing team.

Toyota collaborated with BMW to create a rear-drive sports car platform for the respective automakers: a Z4 replacement for BMW and a Supra replacement for Toyota, creating some economies of scale for otherwise low-volume vehicles.

We have already seen the next Z4, but the closest we’ve seen to a Supra is the FT-1 concept at the 2014 Detroit auto show and a lot of spy shots of a sports car testing on the Nürburgring. Both cars will be built by Magna Steyr in Graz, Austria.

Toyota made four generations of Supra from 1978 to 2002, initially as a derivative of the Celica. Its life was shorter in the U.S. where it left the market in 1998; it had already stopped production for Canada in 1986. It was known for its inline-six engines, and early versions boasted of an independent suspension tuned by Lotus. The third-generation Supra in 1986 split from the Celica which went front-wheel drive while the Supra remained rear-drive. A turbo was added in 1987, and by the fourth generation, it was a twin-turbo.

To partially fill the sports car gap, Toyota introduced the Scion FR-S in 2012 which became the Toyota 86 for the 2017 model year because the Scion brand was discontinued. There is no turbo planned for the 86 because it’s being saved for the Supra.

If TMC badges this Gazoo, I'm going to buy a kazoo and blat out the German national anthem on it every time I see one on the road. From my Porsche.

Man, they've fumbled this as badly as the GT86 and actually make Honda look decisive with the last NSX. Gazoo Cressida, come on!

So is a targa roof out of the question, or do we not know yet? I loved that on my 94TT.

It was reported that a prototype was shown to dealers in Europe a few days ago.

Quote:
Translation:

NEW TOYOTA SUPRA PRESENTED TO DEALERS FOR THE FIRST TIME

On Wednesday, the 29th of November, Toyota's dealership meeting took place in Copenhagen and we would not be a Toyota Supra Community, if we did not have some more information and could confirm this firsthand.

The event was split into an international and national business meeting, where Toyota's strategies and goals were presented until 2021.

Often longtime Toyota vehicle owners have criticized the emotionless vehicle strategy of Toyota, but as one of the three strategic cornerstones is called "emotions", which should be accompanied, inter alia, by the well-known Waku Doki philosophy and the Gazoo Racing.

In addition to information on the B-SUV or the new 2021 Hybrid Highlander, also the almost final model of the new Toyota Supra was presented. So that no photos could be made, all visitors had to hand over their smartphones.

To everyone's surprise, the new Toyota Supra was presented with the words "This is the new Supra," by Akio Toyoda in person, because a presentation / publication was not pre-announced at the meeting.

According to the statement, the digitally processed vehicle (see above) most closely resembles the presented new Toyota Supra.

Sale only in 2019 and with a capacity of 340hp

The new Toyota should be until 2019 at our dealers to buy. Initially, BMW will offer its new Z4 model developed in cooperation with Toyota, followed by the new Toyota Supra one year later.

There should be two variants with different taillights. The top model should have a power of 340hp, but no hybrid. Because the presentation presented to us will make the Highlander with 280 hp the most powerful hybrid model out of the house.

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz, looking more and more like a gigantic letdown.

I'm keeping an eye on the import market, 2018 is 25 years since 1993 so we can start importing some RHD Supras soon! If they prices don't stay completely insane for those, I'll certainly look into picking one up.

340hp could just be for EU countries and or a base model. The rest of the world could get 385hp.

340 hp for $50k LOL
This will be worse flop then the new NSX!

You got Mustangs, Camaros, Chargers at 450hp + at $40k.

This thing NEEDS at least 450hp to make noise.

Also by the time it comes out in 2019 as a 2020 model, new C8 Corvette will most likely be out with over 500hp.

This car (340hp talked about up above) will be called a Celica, while the Gazoo Racing tuned Celica will then be called the Supra. As Akio said, this is the Supra, but not quite what you think. Think ala Mk. II Celica, and then Celica Supra. However, it will just be a GR Supra, and not a GR Celica-Supra. Again, this "is" the Supra, but not the stand alone Supra everyone was thinking.

That is the reason there will not be a M version of the Z4, and it's because of the GR tuned Supra, as this is what will differentiate the GR Supra and the Z4.

Personally, I like the name of Celica Supra, as it means to be surpass the heavens, but again I stress it will be a GR Supra.
