Check out iCarbon's vented hood: www.shopicarbon.com I ordered the single-side carbon fiber, having looked at the Vorsteiner at a local shop.

thanks for the replies. i think some of the icarbon stuff looks great, but i'd like to stick with the same color as my car. hmmm, seems i can't find any aggressive line type hoods for the 1er... business opportunity for someone? i know i can't be the only one who likes how that new 5er hood looks

Painted...as in OEM painted. Wow that would be cool...but I doubt it.
I like the OEM look C/F hoods -Brian..I see your hood is graphite/black. What is that blob looking thing on the driver's-side of the hood?

Check with iCarbon about painting, but I think they prefer not to do so since it is difficult to do a match without the vehicle present. Horsepower Freaks here in Portland is going to install both the hood and trunk lid for me, getting it painted at a local shop they like and trust. I plan to do the OEM Crimson Red for both pieces, but will keep a bit of CF showing on both. Stay tuned! Should look wicked when done.

How much do you think it would cost to paint a hood like this? Looks like this one mounts easily to factory mounting points.

Just get the icarbon
It is better quality than any other hood out there (except 3d design) and they will paint it to match. They are painting mine jet black with exposed cf on the vents, where the plate goes, and along the lip of the wing Some colors are harder to match than others too, as in jet black is easy where as alpine white is near impossible with out the car.

Depends on the shop but between $350 and $450 to paint the entire hood. Higher quality jobs will cost more of course. I am real impressed with VRS' product, it reuses all of the factory mounting points for the hood shock, latch, washer nosels and rubber stops. If you are looking for a perfect fit, VRS is the way to go. |

Furthermore, they use cfrp which is carbon fiber reinforced plastic for their entire line, not full carbon fiber, unlike iCarbon. |

Don't know much about iCarbon's CF but the 3D diffuser I have fits perfectly on my 1. Had it for 6 months and it looks like it was on day 1, the weave, quality, etc...

I like the iCarbon one, but I hate when they put their logo on stuff. I'd like an OEM look on it. Same problem with the diffuser. I guess you can try to ask them not to put it on though. I've also seen some imperfections in the fibers on their show car, although I'm not sure if that was a final hood.
Also, the highest heat seems to be near the center front of the hood. You can tell when you're in traffic with a light drizzle when it's evaporating practically on contact. Not sure which hood reduces that the most, though the Vorsteiner looks like it has a vent where that occurs. |
