OT-V8 Supercar Ride
I've been invited to do some hot laps as a passenger in a V8 supercar next monday. The car is the actual V8 supercar sponsered by Wilson Security. Can't wait.

I'm actually a bit worried about it. I've been in the passenger seat a few times on the track with a race driver, once with Peter Fitzgerald in my car and the other time in a V8 GT Falcon road car with John Bowe and was shitting myself. I would rather drive and be in control than be the passenger however, can't pass this oppurtunity up.

Don't be worried about. Sit back and enjoy it, as the laps will be over before you know it.
Several years ago I worked as a truck driver/tyre man with the V8's for 6 years. In that time I was lucky enough during sponsor days and at the end of testing days to get in quite a few laps as a passenger myself (even got to drive it a could of times) with David Besnard and Paul Radisish. They're only allowed to drive at about 75 to 80% anyway which still feels fast. The one thing I took from the experience is that these guys who reach the top and get to drive these things for a living do so because they're very good. I don't know how many self styled experts I've listened to over the years that say they could do just as well. What bollocks. Enjoy. |

Enjoy your day. Take some brave pills and go to the toilet beforehand.
I was a passenger to Fabian Coulthard at Qld raceway. "He's going to brake....he's going to brake.....he's going to brake.....should I say something? ....he's going to brake....uuugggfff" Being a passenger is a very undignified experience. The driver is very smooth and relaxed but you are being thrown around like little girl shaking a doll. It is bloody exciting though. I don't think I've ever been able to make my eyes go as wide since. |

Yes, I've been a passenger before around the track, and the late braking is what scares me. However this will be the first time in an actual race car and I know the braking will be even later.

Went on may hot laps today. The car was the Holden Commodore V8 supercar sponsored by Wilson Security. The driver was Tony D'alberto. The experience was fantastic. The acceleration, braking and grip was amazing.
It wasn't as scary as the other 2 times I've been driven around by a race car driver in a road car. In the race car I felt a lot safer as the car had amazing grip and I was well strapped in with roll cage protection all around.
