Paint Peeling? Anyone ever had this major issue.
I removed the clear bra on my 2008 135i (Alpine White). It was clear bra'd from the mirrors forward (Front fenders, bumper, hood, etc.)
I used a heat gun and did everything the way you are supposed to, but when I got to the end of the hood, a 2" by 2" section of the pain came off with the clear bra. None of the other panels had this problem, nor did the rest of the hood. When i took it to get it painted, the painter said the paint essentally just peeled off the hood like it wasn't bonded to the E-coat at all. Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem on there cars before? I am not the first owner, and I am just hoping that at one point someone just did a terrible job painting the hood, and the rest of my car isn't like this. http://i1236.photobucket.com/albums/...l/BMWPaint.jpg |

With the magazine as reference as to scale, that piece looks much bigger than two inches square (2"x2")... Two feet by two feet is probably closer?

The dealer repainted the whole bumper.

I was using a heat gun. And I've done this before. That doesn't mean I couldnt have made a mistake tho.
That piece isn't the part that came up with the clear bra, that's paint from the rest of my hood that simply just pealed off when the painter was attempting to sand the hood down to touch up and blend the spot. He ended up stripping the whole hood which really just resulted in him hitting it with a blow dryer and the paint simply blowing off. That piece pictures is an example of how it came off on the whole hood. |

If your BMW paint is peeling like that then something must have went terribly wrong at the factory. Did you have your hood redone or anything of that sort?

I've only owned the car for about a week. The previous owner bought the car new and said that the clear bra was put on at the dealer when it was new. Carfax said no accidents. I jus hope all my paint isn't like that.
I just didn't know if there were any paint recalls or tcbs about it. |

Isn't BMW paint covered for an extended time? try and see if BMW would cover/check this out seems abnormal.

I'm gonna try to see if BMW will do anything. I'm not familiar with bmws warranty. I figured nothing is covered anymore except emissions related stuff.

I have a feeling OP's car encountered "issues" at the dealer for whatever reason they decided to patch up the hood and slap a clear bra over it so any peeling, bubbling, or imperfections in the paint wont be noticed until clear is removed. Either that or they super glued that section of clear bra to your paint it bonded so well that section of paint just ripped off which is highly unlikely coming from a factory paint job. Just my .2 cents

Its hard to know the real story. Only one previous owner, he said the bra was installed by the dealer when he bought it new. Clean carfax. Thats all I know.

regardless, paint peeling is not normal. when you do go to the dealer, if you haven't already, whatever you do ... don't tell them you used a heat gun. if you're under warranty they will look for anything to not cover you.

However, if you do have defective paint as a cheaper than a full paint option you could always check out vinyl wrapping |
