Buy a 1 now or wait till next model?
Realistically when can we expect to be able to purchase the new 1 series coupe in Australia?
Are we talking next year (2012) or is it more likely to be 2013? I've decided my next car will be a 125i as it's more within my budget but if the new model has a turbo 4 with 180kw i'd rather have that if the wait is not too long.

Bimmer Freak take a look here http://www.1addicts.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=292 here http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=478254 and around
New hatch is due next year and the coupe and vert 6-12 months after. Early rumours suggest the coupe and convertible may be called the 2 series. |

Turbo I4 Switchover Dates and Current 3-series, M3, and 1-series Production End Dates On the heels of the big BMW turbo 4-cylinder (Specs/Info) news yesterday, SCOTT26 has provided (via his post) some dates for the switchover of certain BMW models from the current inline 6-cylinder to the new twinpower turbo I4 motor, as well as the end of production of the current 3-series, M3 and 1-series. Here is the I4 switchover and end of production schedule:

Hey mate are you looking at new or used? If time is on your side I would hold out for the new model but it will take time to get here. Soon enough the E82 shape will become very familiar on our streets because it's reaching the end of it's life cycle.

You can't really live your life to the cycle, just buy the car you like right now and enjoy it right now. Otherwise as soon as you buy the new model you'll be looking over your shoulder for the next model change, etc. It never ends!

IMO nothing beats BMW inline 6 goodness. The F20 won't be running any 6cyl engines at all which I think is a damn shame. The reason 135i picked up so many accolades was due to the shoehorning of a twin huffer 6 under the bonnet.
You should get one now while you still can, our cars are sure to have a cult following due to such a limited timeframe production. Right now everyone on the road still looks at the E82/88 like it's something new and special. You'll be getting the LCI with the option of DCT as well, so to me that's great timing.

Also with the economy, QLD/Vic floods I'd say there will be a bunch of repo's coming up in the short to medium term of 135's due to the market they tend to attract. If you can live with the current shape you might be able to pick up a current 135 used that will be way more fun than a 125 IMHO. NO disrespect to 135 owners of course, but the car is pitched towards WRX/Evo types that tend to overextend in good times. Unless of course you just want a small fast car.

Thanks for all ur replies so far guys.
I'm kidding myself if i think i can wait 2+ years. So i'm going to go test drive a 125i this weekend as well as the Golf R (which is much cheaper and has more standard features) and see what i like. A 2nd hand 135i might be on the cards although most ones i can afford will be running out of warranty soon. If i bought one privately could i take it to a BMW dealership and pay for an extended warranty some how??

Why is warranty so important to you?

^ I hear alot about BMWs having random issues with things like the air-con or power windows, tail lights etc, and not to mention the fuel pump issues in the 135i. Stuff that just doesn't happen in Jap cars.
So if i was to buy 2nd hand i would want warranty. Anyone know roughly how much extended warranty costs?

it doesn't happen to japanese cars? That Toyota recall I read about this morning must have been a typo then...

Really? Seems quite short sighted of BMW to axe one of their top selling 1-series models.
