Help with maintenance and upgrades!
Hi 1Addicts,
I've just hit 100k miles on my stock 08 135i up on the 101, so I figure it's time for some TLC and a few upgrades to keep things interesting. I don't know much outside of doing some serious lurking, but here's what I'm considering. A couple questions:
Thanks guys! I appreciate the eyes!

The list looks good! a few things though,
I'm skeptical about the lux taking 1hour of shop time to do, should be pretty straightforward to do it yourself also the cost of the drop in filter + intake cleaning(if that's for the intake I'm thinking about) adds up to be more than a new short ram intake or cold air intake. just to give you some other options.

That's a far cry from the truth with many proving the OCC's do little, if anything, to stop the carbon buildup on these motors... nice marketing though. Really drives home the scare tactics some companies use to make massive profits on parts with little fact behind their claims.

Labor on the oil change and spark plugs seems kind of ridiculous. They will already have the car on a lift and the under tray removed in order to install the FMIC. From there, the oil change will take maximum of 15 minutes. The engine cover will be removed for the intake cleaning so they will have access to the coil packs & spark plugs. Pulling the coil packs and replacing the plugs should take another 15 minutes. Before making a fuss, consider whether they cut you slack on the FMIC install labor and intake cleaning. Also, keep in mind that everyone is entitled to make a reasonable profit and you don't want to piss them off just before handing them your keys. I may point out the over lapping labor charges, not squabble about the price, but ask them to take extra special care when doing the job. This way if they come back with some additional charges you can remind them that they were overpaid in the first place.
Just a thought... Aside from the intake cleaning, there is nothing on that list you can't accomplish by yourself in one afternoon with a metric socket set from kmart, a pair of jack stands and a BMW spark plug socket. |

This is awesome guys, thank you so much. The socket and jack-stand approach is something I've been considering as well; and I agree on the OCC, every shop I've talked to seems to think it's a waste of money, even for some track day cars.
